Great. Needs to be updated.

Went here as a child and wanted to take my kids here. It is pretty awesome. They loved seeing the Caravel! The rest of the place is like a time warp to the 80's, I think it might be exactly the same as when I went as an 10 year old. It needs an update, but still completely worth the... More

Exploring the Caravelle on the inside and outside has been a little adventure for our young kids. Plus the aquarium / shell museum with clown fish, snails, mussels, an octopus and more. A great way to spend approx 2 hours.

How interesting to see the Bartolomeu Museum with artifacts from ships of old, Bartolomeu Diaz's route and a Caravel the size of his ship that you can climb onto. It brought back memories of school history learning of the Portuguese sailor discovering Mossel Bay. What brave men the sailors of old were. The shell museum was a bit of a... More

A wonderful look at the early days of South Africa. My children loved every minute, they explored the ship, Loved the Shell display and they even posted postcards from the boot under the tree (The postcards arrived at their destinations too!) A wonderfully exciting place to visit, on out way out we spotted some humpback whales in the bay below,... More

Most of my friends and family recommended we go there... Not special at all. The replica of the boat/ship was not in a good state, and in my opinion, needed some refurbishment. The grounds were littered and not tidy. The museum was really not informative... Perhaps new management could address the situations and try to improve it, before we will... More

As Australian tourists to SA, we had no idea about the tremendous impact of the Portuguese explorers! As we wanted to see the "Postal Tree" we stumbled across this museum within the grounds .... & what a find! Thinking we'd quickly walk through the building (like 10mins max) ... ha ha! .. we spent 2 intriguing, highly informative & thoroughly... More

Have not been there in a while and maybe for a reason. It definitely needs an upgrade, could be a lot more interactive. History is a very important role of our existence andbthe youth will only be interested if it speaks their language.

Well worth the small entrance fee, this interesting museum provided two hours of exploration and gave an insight into the golden age of travel. Very informative and small gardens and good views of Mossel Bay from the general grounds.

In a great location overlooking the bay we could enjoy learning about the Portuguese landing in the fifteenth century, see an ethnic-botanical garden and historic buildings as well as other items of of interest. Free entry was a bonus.
