The museum has a varied collection of monuments, with the "Post Office Tree" worth a visit. The clear highlight is the recreated caravel as used by Dias to first reach the Bay fron Europe, with very detailed and fascinating information about the maritime explorers around...More

I really liked the herb trail, with the possibility of blind people reading it. I think the plants need to be refreshed. The shell house was really nice.

I grew up in the George/Mossel Bay area and it was commonplace to go to the post boot and big tree. Now, you can only get there by paying to go through the museum. :-( The museum itself was frustrating - lots of interesting things...More

I personally found this to be a bit boring. There are some very interesting things such as the post office tree and replica ship but overall I was glad to get finished. The old buildings are nice.

It is worth going to the museum just to see the great boat exhibit, and of course to post your own letter under the postbox tree. Well worth a short stop here.

The museum comprises an exact external replica of the ship that arrived here some 500 years ago - amazingly small! together with a deal of good information on the trip and other exploration of the 'dark continent' around the time. Not worth a lengthy trip...More
