Second time on ferry ,it is a slightly awkward finding it from the train station side(wonder why no train on Penang bridges),and odd method of coin entry ,but slight lack of supervision is the real problem --- would be good to see someone in uniform ---but main difficulty is passengers throwing plastic bottles into Ocean or starting car exhaust up... As I'm writing this, I am now try to catch my breath from the walk (Butterworth Bus Terminal - Penang Ferry Terminal). You have to climb up stairs and quite a distance walk... Take you around 5 mins to 10 mins depending on your pace... But do not fret, there are RELA standing by to help any in need passengers... More

After more than an hour of waiting we finely got into the next ferry that took us to the mainland. Night view of awesome looking back to Penang skyline. The journey takes about 25 minutes and it's enough time for each individual to have your best photo shoot angle taken. Worth the journey as the fare are calculated only way... More

Long walk with steps and uphill. May be challenging for elderly. Glad my 81 year old mother did not join us especially on the Butterworth side to the train station. However my wife and I enjoyed the 20 minute ride on the ferry. Ferry fare only 1.2 MYR and you only pay in one direction.

If you really what to start having the Fun of holidaying in Penang Island. Take the Ferry not the bridge. You can take the bridge when you are going back home. While crossing to the other side the feeling of being on water makes you feel different, compared to land. Park your car in the ferry, come out of it... More

Apart from it's busy movements, it's a very attractive and interesting place to stop by even though if you are not going anywhere.

Alternative route across Penang by car at RM7.70... Worth it with beautiful views of Penang City... Had a great time with my children though the journey is a short 20 minutes ride...

A historic way of crossing over to Penang Island from Butterworth. Though most of the people will use the bridge now. But for tourist or a family trip, it is an experience especially with kids. And for a backpacking tourist this will be the cheapest and convenient mode of going over to Penang Island if you are not following any... More
