Hire a boat to get to it

Well outside the beaten path this is one of the more remote and hardest to find temples. We hired a boat from Bagan (just ask in the local restaurants opposite the Bagan archeological museum and they’ll sort you out) and it took about a 3-3.5 hour round trip. We were fortunate that one of the locals who tagged along was one of the curators at the museum and she’d not been out to this temple yet. Unique as far as I can tell the temple is situated on a valley floor built into the side of the valley with it’s caves. Behind the Buddha you can enter the cave system where the monks used to meditate. Coupled with a private boat cruise up and down the river this was a great way to spend a morning.

A hidden cave

My guide showed me this hidden temple with a tunnel system and caves. Absolutely breathtaking and I did not expect that. He had to get a key for us and opened especially for me this holy place.
