Whilst visiting the array of temples in Bagan we were taken, as part of a small tour group, to this village - and what a nice hour we had looking around it !
It was like going back in time and though there were retail opportunities we never felt any pressure or experienced any hassle to buy anything - indeed we had loads of uninterrupted time to watch various crafts in action and take video of the what we might now perceive to be primitive engineering to make a myriad of useful products. Interesting to see how some parts of the world do still actually live their lives in a simple yet apparently happy way.
I particularly enjoyed looking at some of the 'machinery' in use - foot treadled devices driven by belts; foot operated bellows to fire up small furnaces for metal work; mesmerising looms operated by talented ladies. Marvellous !

Similar to Minnanthu Village, the village of Mindanao, also near Mandalay, is considered a final frontier and backward. It still has many traditional living habits and mostly manual labour. Many of the women here smoke large cigars. Myanmar is one of the largest opium-producing countries in the world, and historically women have smoked marijuana everywhere. Now it's more of a light cigar, and the strong taste of Cuban cigars is a completely different and even grassy smell.

Taken by tour guide to West Pwa-Saw Village instead of Minnathu Village because he said it was less crowded or touristy. I would agree as we only saw a few other tourists in West Pwa-Saw. Got a glimpse of traditional Myanmar rural life; very friendly and hospitable people. Two elderly sisters invited us to their open home and shared tea and food. It was interesting to see them make a huge cigar and smoke it.

We went to a tour organized by ostello bello. They dropped us at the village and we spent too much time looking at what supposedly their life looks like. The girl that guided us spoke perfect English mhm is she a tour guide or she lives there? She spoke better than any tour guide in Myanmar. What tripped me and made me angry were all the lies. They claim to make all peanuts there in the village and we all purchased a ton of them. For 2000 kyat each. Surprise! When we went to the local store same nuts are 500 kyats and produced by a national company. What a scam. To resell 400% higher and lie! They try to sell you anything and claim its produced there but same stuff is in every market. If you go, don't buy anything. Better, don't go. This is basically a business. How come they have a TripAdvisor? When she asked for tip and we gave 1000 she was unhappy. So, fro. 10 people she makes 10 000 an hour. Do the math and decide for yourself. Agree with other reviewers its staged. Because it is a business not an authentic village.

You arrive to the village and immediately a local English speaking woman will approach you. The village is nothing special and everybody is ready to take advantage of the tourists. We stopped the visit because of an encounter with a poisonous snake. We were scared and we stopped our visit. We know that snake bites are the main cause of death in rural myanmar and treatments are limited. In addition, it was very hot and there was not a lot of shade.
Tourists are charged approximately 10 dollars each. Honestly, it is not worth it. We did not pay as we soon realized that this a trap.

We walked through and so did many other tourists and travellers. All seemed staged and much posing went on for money. Goods sold were overpriced. Any other village we came across felt more authentic.

We walked to the village from the Lemyethna Temple, past a small and almost dry reservoir at which a woman was filling containers to carry back to the village on a yoke.
The village has obviously cottoned on to tourism but, nevertheless, it is actually very interesting to see how the country people of Myanmar still live. This village only got electricity 7 months ago. The ladies still collect water, by hand, from the nearby reservoir every day and they try to make a few Kyats by inviting people into their homes, to take pictures and to buy trinkets.
I was amazed, though at how few of our fellow tourists were willing to shell out even a couple of thousand Kyats (about £1) for the experience.
If you do visit, please show these people some respect and a bit of generosity.

Quaint village with shops selling "handmade" silver and textile products. We bought both. Came home and tested my newly purchased silver necklace in silver cleaner. I had asked that they replace the standard clasp with an "m" clasp: turns out that was the only real silver bit. The rest is fake (see photo). Makes me wonder at the authenticity of their "traditional" village lifestyle.

Like the previous post, I agree it’s a tourist trap. Ladies starting to shout in English just as you approach on the road. Not at all the Burmese traditional behavior that we have learnt to appreciate.
Though, I give it a “poor” rating as it can serve as a stop for drinks, coffe and a half decent toilet.

This small village just outside New Bagan and near the Aureum Hotel is set amongst the Pagodas and has a great family run restaurant. Very good food. All fresh and a delightful place to go. We went twice as the food was SO good! Recommend highly.
