The best national park in the country. Here you find:
1. The national animal of Pakistan: Markhor
2. The national bird of Pakistan: Chakor
3. The national tree of Pakistan: Deodar (Cedar)
Amazing 360 degrees views and clear view of the highest mountain in the world outside of the Himalayas, Tirich Mir (7,708m).
A pristine environment free of trash one finds in other public places.

Gol National Park is around 2 hours drive deform Chitral city. Road is not mettled and narrow. The road winds through the mountain with great views of Chitral city. It’s a good idea to hire a 4x4 vehicle. We saw Markhors grazing in the mountains which was a great sight. Once you reach the top, there is a small sitting g place from where you can also view Markhors. Take food with you and you can enjoy picnic over there at 9000 feet. Make sure you do not leave your trash behind. Bring the used items back with you or use the dust bins.

We loved trekking on the slopes! The slopes are gentle and easy to hike on. We took some breath-taking pics of the grassy landscape with a variety of beautiful trees.

We left our hotel Hindu Kush Heights in Chitral City at 10am and reached the viewing point at 12:30pm. The road turns into a winding narrow track and goes up the mountain till 10,000 ft. On the way is the PTDC Motel which is now unfortunately closed and also the ruling family summer palace. If both had been open then it can become interesting. The route is an interesting 4 wheel drive. At the top is a forest rest house which I was told one can rent for Rs 4000 per night by the care taker, but you have to bring your own provisions. The view is breathtaking.
The Markhors come down in the evening and we did not see any. (suggest you bring along binoculars). With some effort this can be turned into a nice tourist site. So many missed opportunities in Chitral!
The view point is shaded with sitting arrangement.

If anyone wants to see Markhor(Mountain Goat) then this IS the place to go. Go after 4PM as then around 5PM they come down the slops & are easy to see. The part is easily accessible by black top road from Chitral.

Make sure you make a visit. Sit by the river, and look out for animals. The locals seem to know just how to look for them!

Even though we timed it to be able to see the majestic animal Markhor, we weren't successful in seeing them.

I do recommend the national park as it offers great views - Just take food with you as there isn't much up there.
