The Golden Triangle was well worth the four hour drive from Chiang Mai. To stand on top of the hill overlooking the mighty Mekong is unlike anything I've ever experienced. It is very surreal to stand there and see Burma and Laos. The mountainous back drop is even better. If you get the chance pay the money to take a... More

We went with Tour East (full day tour to Golden Triangle and Chiang Rai) I found the history about opium really interesting. How it used to be drug dealer's district (probably still is). We were suggested to visit Laos (500 baht, including boat rides and immigration fee). The trip itself was fun but the market in Laos was absolutely rubbish... More

The golden triangle where thailand, laos and myanmar meet on a tiny island in Mae kong river is where opium traders trade their goods and money in the past. Now if you take a cruise down the river , it's just a empty island with overgrown trees. But it's interesting and good to explore. you can take the boat ride... More

We had a wonderful view of seeing the Ruak River and Mekong River join. On our side we were in Thailand, on the far bank their was Laos and on the V of land coming down to the confluence lay Myanmar, quite unique to be able to see. Locals with boats seemed free to travel where ever they wanted. The... More

As most people know this is a point where the Ruak and Mekong Rivers meet and is where the borders of Thailand,Laos and Myanmar (Burma) meet and was the biggest producer of opium in the world till Afghanistan took the lead. There is a bit of a frisson in being at a place so well known by reputation ,but apart from... It's rare to see the border of three countries all within a few hundred metres. You can see how this was the opium route of this area with the ease to move across borders. A little touristy but the people are nice and friendly and not pushy. There is plenty of food, shopping and accommodations. It a must do from... More

From here you can see the boarder of Burma and Laos, you can take a boat to gamble at the Burma and Laos casinos. Very nice views of the boarder and you can see the difference and the similarities of culture between the 3 countries

It is a very interesting location and one where you can see the waters from the two rivers join, some colour difference. You also look over the Lao side with casinos and the Myanmar side a bit quieter. The river and opportunity to ride a boat is the best way to see this region. Worthy of the tourist pics next... More
