Join us; we’ll discover the most hidden corner of a mystifying Caribbean...

Join us; we’ll discover the most hidden corner of a mystifying Caribbean metropolis. Follow us as we unearth fascinating cultural treasures in the first city of the New World. We will visit the Higüey Basilica, the most important religious monument on the island. A distinct structure in the form of a Latin crux; walk through its gaudy bronze main entrance plated in 24 carat gold. Its interiors safeguard a painting portraying an image of the Virgin of Altagracia, the spiritual mother of the Dominican people, finished in gold and gemstones. Built in the fifteenth century, the edifice is 33.5 cm. long, and 45 cm. in height. We will hail to an indigenous settlement found to the East of the island, founded on the epoch Christopher Columbus first arrived on the island. Arcane traditions held by the inhabitants of Higüey are deeply-rooted in the Cross of Forgiveness sanctuary, located next to the church adjacent to the park. Strolling down Main Street’s narrow paths, we make our way to St. Dionysius church. Its concrete foothold has withstood the inclemency of the weather, and is sustained by a sober vaulted ceiling nave, comprising five archways of eye-catching beauty and sophisticated simplicity. Making our way across Hiigüey’s agricultural market, we will get a better appreciation for the everydayness of rural life, astray from the hustle and bustle of passerby traffic. While at the Cigar Museum we will go hand in hand with master craftsmen, learning the proper way of rolling a cigar. We will visit an amber and larimar museum, minerals that abound on the island.

Our family attended this Higuey City tour and it turned out to be disappointing and boring. The pick-up was the most time wasting thing. We were picked up from our hotel on time however, they were picking up guests from other hotels as well so we basically sit in the car for an hour just waiting to get all guested... More

Dear weatherlovely, Thanks for taking your time on giving us some feedback about our Higuey City Tour. Since you booked a tour & pick up is a must for all of our clients that book our tours day by day, that is something that can only be avoided by buying a private tour the next time. Our guides are supposed... More

I am so glad that we booked this excursion! The pickup was on time, and there were only 4 other people on the excursion with us (2 of them were friends of ours). Our tour guide was Nacho - he was so funny and an excellent guide. First they drove us to the Basilica where we were able to go... More

This was a half-day trip with a very experienced and knowledgeable guide who pointed out lots of interesting things and had answers to all reasonable questions you could ask. Toward the end you do a quick walk through the market: if you have a weak stomach, stay in the van. There's raw meat and poultry sitting out in the open,... More

The Higuey City Tour was a half-day tour that was very enjoyable. We visited the the Basilica and the original Cathedral. We drove past the market, and would have enjoyed being able to stop and walk through that. I think that may have been something that we would have done if it was an all day tour. The cigar factory... Great tour! Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, and the tour of the city was very informative. It was extremely eye opening to see how the people of the Dominican Republic live, and what the markets are like.

My whole family and I took a tour with Ricardo through the city of Higuey. The whole tour just gives you a feel for life outside of the US. At the very beginning of the tour we headed up into the mountains which was unbelievably beautiful. We went into one of the farmers homes and really got to see how... More

We visited the Roman Catholic Church in Higuey City, very impressive. The architecture was very beautifully done. The tour guide did an excellent job talking in English, Spanish and German. Got a great impression of how the Dominican people lived.

Being next to the airport, I found myself skeptical, but am delighted to report a good night's sleep, no internal nor external noise, and a nice breakfast. We arrived late on a busy Sunday night and found a cheerful front desk individual who was helpful and courteous.

The tour took us to the Basilica in Higuey and also to cultural stores for souvenirs. The driver was more than helpful he stopped at various places for drinks and snacks.
