In our 3 weeks hiking around Chilean Patagonia the Los Piedras hike to the top of Cerro Cinchao was our favorite hike.

We started at the parking lot for Mirador Laguna Verde (you can drive there--you need to stop and pay admission to the park). From the Laguna Verde parking lot the trail was well marked. Follow the Los Piedras sign when you come to it about half a mile in to the hike. The trail ascends about 2,000 feet. There are several different and interesting forests you pass through on the way up. And there are ocassional views across the valley. But the real payoff comes when you get to the top. The summit is above the treeline, and presents 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains. Spectacular.

It took four fit 60 year olds a bit less than 3 hours to get to the top. Much less to get down. And we lingered at the top for most of an hour. We did not do the full loop. We got to the top of the mountain and then descended back the way we came. That looked shorter than completing the loop. And we had already gotten the best views of the trail.

A beautiful park with great views across Coyhaique and the mountains beyond. Really worth the effort getting to the large lake at the far side - really lovely. Well worth a visit, and just a short drive from the town,

The park closes at 17:00 in the afternoon, so start early if you want to do the 18 KM walk. We did the 12 KM walk and it was a nice walk, mostly through woods. There is a nice picnic spot near one of the tree lakes you pass.

Close to Coyhaique, an easy drive or taxi ride to the park entrance, then drive farther in to several trailheads that lead to the lake or drive to the lake itself. We brought lunch and found a shady tree to sit under and converse. Some of our party got dropped off at the first trailhead and hiked up and met the rest of us at the lake. This forest was heavily logged at one time and it was interesting to see the laudable efforts toward recovering the native forest.

Nice park to spend an afternoon in. However due to the possibilities for cars to go deep into the park it doesn't feel like nature.

The way to the national park is clearly signalled and easy to follow in any car. Once there you may leave the car in the first parking lot and continue on foot or bring the car up to the top and get to the lake. The view once there is worth the walk. Take good hiking boots and water. Suitable for all ages.

Just a few clics from town...great trails and view of the city to warm up your trip. Super cheap price to get in and bring your grouted for some snow at the top.

This was great to walk around, there are two walks you can do; a long one and a short one.

We are both pretty fit and able but were quite hungover and so just did the short walk; and to be frank it was enough with a hangover.

Actually, you can save yourself a lot of energy if you get a cab there from the town centre.

There were some fantastic views; they reminded me of the books I had when I was little about dinosaurs.

It took us 3 hours, was a beautiful walk through meadows and forests. If you´re even slightly fit it win[t be too challenging. Definitely worth it if you have a spare half a day.

Great hike, terrain changes pastures, lakes, dark forests and only minutes from Coyhaique! Cab ride around 5000, short loop(lakes)took us about 3.5hrs. Great views of Coyhaique!
