Nice Mosque beneath the Castle

First of all, the front pic on TA is misleading showing the Gjirokaster fortress clock tower. This is NOT a Mosque.
The Gjirokaster Mosque is set beneath the fortress at the beginning of the uphill path in old town leading to the castle.
It's a rather plain Mosque, but nested between dense old houses, so it looks picturesque. Quick and nice 5 min stop.

... but it's a pretty simple mosque, with no really interesting or outstanding architectural features. When I was there, on a hot afternoon late in Ramadan, the few people inside were napping.

Unexceptional mosque

It's good to see a mosque, right in the center, being used. At the same time, provided that prayers were not in session, you are free to enter. However, the interior is rather plain and uninspiring. It is just a mosque.

Nice mosque

The mosque is quite nice where it is situated in the old town and it is worth a visit. When I went there was no one around and I could admire the insides and relax.

A Mosque with a bar?

... a Mosque with a bar on the ground floor (the sanctuary is on the first floor). That may be not anyone's cup of tea, but I had never seen something like this before, and I found it impressive. Tolerant, relaxed Albania.
