Qasr Azraq is not too far away from the Saudi border and it is definitely worth a visit due to its past association with Lawrence of Arabia. It has several rooms and an upper floor as well in some places. There is a small museum...More

We drove ourselves around Jordan for the most part, and did our own trip of desert castles. Obviously we included Qsr Azraq in that, because... well... the history of the place is really freakin' cool. We didn't get a guide, just used our LP book,...More

This place dates from Roman times due to its proximity (in the past) to fresh water. More recently Laurence of Arabia and the Arab freedom fighters planned some of their strategies here. It was rebuilt by the Muslims after the Romans and stood largely intact...More

Large black fortress built in the 13th century, Turks were stationed here in the 16th century and Lawrence of Arabia made this place his HQ during 1917. 80 m long wall encircling a courtyard, there is a mosque in the middle. No signs of much...More

At quick look, this castle is not as impressive as or beautiful as other large qsar like ajloun. It could be more interesting if more information are well presented at site, providing the visitors with a story from how it was constructed from very hard...More

It was a really good place to discover. The guide was a bit poor in the explanation about the history of the place but nice anyway. The castle has muuuuch more to discover under the stones there, but is in a really good conditions.

This amazing castle was impressive for its size and for the black basalt stones that construct it. You can walk all through it and also visit a small museum housed within the castle which has some interesting artefacts and also some well-written information boards about...More

After the bright yellow stone of Qasr Kharrana and Quseyr Amra, the castle at al-Azraq is dark and gloomy by comparison It's also a less complete ruin so takes a bit of imagination, unless you're enthusiastic to learn the history of the place. There are...More

Build by the Romans, used by the Arabs and Lawrence ! In reasonable condition, so you can wander in and out (and on top). I was particularly impressed by the massive, solid stone doors that actually still swivel !
