Lake Llanganuco is about 3 hours from Huaraz. Is also the starting point to lodge Peru and mountain Pisco. You can make nice round trip from Llanganuco lake to lodge Peru, conitue to lake 69 and come to the starting point again.

Located at around 3800 mamsl Llanganuco lake provides a wonderful sight. We took a service from Yungay that first took us to Portachuelo (a pass between callejon de Huaylas and callejon de Conchucos) at 4760 mamsl that give us spectacular views of huascaran, chopicalqui, pisco and chacraraju mountains. The road gives you a good view of Lake Llanganuco too. On the return we stopped at lake Llanganuco and took a boat ride. You can also take a Maria Josefa trail for hiking. All the experience took us 6 hours from Yungay but if you only go to lake Llanganuco it will take you 2 hours. Totally recommended.

Why they have this listed as Huaraz - which is good distance away, well, such is Tripadvisor.
The lake is a glacial lake that sits in a valley.
At one end are man made structures that keep the lake in check, and keeps the erosion from the river to a minimum.
It's a lake with some hiking areas. Not really much to do, unless you want to take a boat ride on a glacier lake. Once done, unless your into hiking, your done.
Theres a lake to the east that to me, is a nice lake to visit No man made structures keeping anything in check.
To get to the lake you have to pay 30 soles to enter the park. So, unless your tour includes the park fee, expect to pay it.
Worth the trip - yeah, I think so. Nice scenery, the lake is pretty. Good views along the way.

This is truly a beautiful lake. No need to hike to get to it, just find transportation and pay fee to enter the national park

Great for spending 1-2 hours there. You could take a boat ride for 15-20 minutes at around 6 soles. There are bathrooms and places to buy a snack (choclo con queso)

All tours headed towards Laguna 69 stop at this magnificent lake. It is one of the large turquoise coloured lake with picturesque views. I would recommend going to Laguna 69 and seeing this en route

A really incredible hike and two of the more beautiful lagunas we have seen. The hike to Laguna 69 itself was not very hard other than the altitude which slows it down a little. The only problem is how difficult it is to get here. We considered various options and their costs/benefits. To put it in perspective, we hate tours / tour groups and tour buses. We really wanted to find a way to get to this hike without joining all the other lemmings and hiking in a big line. You can take a collective to Yungay and then take another collective or taxi to the hike from there, but this method has two big problems.
First, the one direction cost is not much less than the round trip tour bus cost. Second and bigger problem is that it is only one direction. The trail head is not on a main road and no one goes there unless they are hiking, so no taxis or collectives wait for returning hikers. There are a couple of collectives that pass nearby from time to time but this is not a sure thing and this isn’t a place you would want to get stuck without a return trip to town.
If you really want to do the DIY way, you may be able to talk your way into a tour bus with empty seats for the return. They are always there. Or you may find a collective and end up spending more than the tour trip. Because of these issues, we sucked up our pride and joined a “tour”. Thankfully this is a loose term and is really nothing more than a bus full of tourists that go to the trail together. There is a “guide” but no one actually hikes with him. The painful parts are having to endure a slow breakfast stop (we brought our own food) and waiting for the street shoe, jean wearing, purse toting hikers in the group to finish before the bus can leave.
We joined the Andes Hard bus which costs only 30 soles, or around $9. This was the most economical way to reach the hike. As soon as we arrived, we quickly separated from the rest of the group and still got to enjoy the hike alone. And surprisingly, most everyone at the lake doesn’t venture past the main landing so the rest of the shore is empty of people.
If you are interested in more detailed info on this hike, just search our name, Career Break Adventures and Laguna 69. There is a full write up about this trip. Enjoy the trip!

I was really looking forward to this excursion but the terrible road conditions made me feel sorry about the decision of going there. 25 km of the worst un paved road I have ever experienced. Thanks Good was not my car otherwise I would feel very sorry for her. At the Park entrance they have the guts to make you pay USD8 each passenger.
very primitive facilities at both lakes. It was raining so I missed even the view. What a waste.

Stunning. The path is well maintained and views beautiful all along. It has a flat path along it for a gentle hike. It's some 20 mins drive from the Llanganuco Mountain lodge, versus 2.5/3 hours from Huaraz or over 1.5 hrs from Yungay. It's a fantastic place and the only option if you want to be close to the park and hikes.

We camped near the lake after Santa Cruz trek and took a short walk on dusty road to the lakeside. The lake as viewed on top of the mountain is like an emerald gem in heart of the mountains. As you get close to the lakeside you will find yourself walk on the fine sand and tides pat softly on the bank. Everything is so tranquil and calm. The treasure of Mt. Huascaran.

Did you get this tour in Huaraz or in Caraz?

The one I got was in Yungay which is at the bottom of the way up to the lake. I have friends in the town so they have people they know and give them a fair price for a group of many people. But I would think any place is about the same :)
