I wasn't planning to go to this temple but saw it on the way to Matsushima Kaigan station and thought, why not? I was glad I went. The place is bigger than I thought. There is a nice rock garden at the entrance, then the temple, some caves on the side, down to a rose garden, and a pond. It was very quiet - just what a Japanese garden should be. I enjoyed my time there away from the crowds at Matsushima Pier.
