Stunning al fresco dining or a picnic along the stream. Lots of space for the kids to run around, climb, enjoy the farm animals and a perfect place to enjoy the country air

We enjoyed a relaxed few hours, first taking the cheese making tour, which is more of an information session as the factory is within the restaurant building, and enjoyed a pre-booked picnic next to the river. The farm is owner-run and the service is good and very friendly. The talk about cheese-making was interesting and our 9 year old son... More

Wonderful experience, watched cheese being made. Enjoyed lively Cappuccino on the veranda under the trees. Stocked up on all The Dutch treats and of course Dutch Cheese! Drop, stroop waffels and Appelstroop.

During one of our many trips to this area we were not dissapointed when we spend the day at van Gaalen . The menu hasn't changed in years and a typical South African breakfast with some Dutch influence ensure a good luck start of the day. There are hiking trails, cycling trails of many nature's. You can simply have a... More

We have recently had lunch a few times at Van Gaalen - once on our own and once in a group of friends and weren't disappointed either time. Toasted sandwiches were good and the cheese lovely. This time we shared a cheese platter which was really good - the mixed cheeses from Europe. The setting is very pretty and scenic.

We frequent Van Gaalens and always leave feeling refreshed by the view and being outdoors. My only gripe with the place is the rather bland menu which could use a revamp. Currently the only thing worth it is the cheesecake and coffee, but we go mainly for the view and picnic
