Very well preserved .. good gardens nearby .. you can see this in Discovery of India also !!
How did they keep the mahal cool and clean .. 2 storeys .. lot of stories .. recent find .. of an abandoned empire.
We took the services of Bhanu : +91 9449409070 and he was very good with stories, family friendly, humble, resourceful and helpful.

Zanana enclosure is a part of the royal enclosure in hampi. It comprises of queen's palace, lotus mahal, elephant stables, servant quarters. Needs at least more than an hour to explore the place. Better to have a guide along to obtain better understanding.

Size is small so not sure how many queens lived here. The base of court is also nearby. Architecture is nice. Surrounded by trees. One can sit on benches near by and look. Elephant stable of the 11 state elephants is in vicinity. Do visit the small museum on left side with statues kept. Ranga Temple is where they performed cultural dances etc so one can visit those also. If tired do relax for some time near the stable garden or sit below the tree to enjoy refreshments sold there. The 40 rs ticket is inclusive of visit to museum and chariot temple entry fee so keep the ticket. The stone boundary across is interesting.
Our auto driver Manju ( +91 9632779366 ) took us here and told us the importance and history of this place.
Definitely worth a visit.

This is a separately ticketed complex within the ruins which comprises of the elephant stables, the Lotus Mahal, couple of watchtowers, a small museum (rather collection of statues) and the basement of the original palace of the queens of the Vijaynagar empire. The palace had foundations of stone above which the buildings were made of sandalwood (to beat the heat) which was burnt down by the invaders (as narrated by our guide). Only the stones remain now. The photography museum is also nearby which must be visited to see the transformation of the place.

The Zanana enclosure is well maintained and even some preparations are going on for the coming Humpi festival. The construction is an example of the ancient sculpturings of the Vijayanagara kingdom which are to be seen by all .

A part of the Royal Enclosure, this consists of the Lotus Mahal, the Elephant Stables and Ranga Temple. All are maintained pretty well, especially given that they are over 700 years old and have been the victim of many wars. The Elephant Stables could have been a little better maintained. Easy to reach and guides are available

it is close by the elephant stable (50 mts), pattabirama temple (300 mts), watch tower (300 mts), lotus mahal.
Clearly this was created post late 1700, however, many artifacts kept in this building as exhibits predates this building.

Decent place, nowhere nearly as impressive as the other buildings in Hampi but maybe interesting to some as the erstwhile residence of the royal harem, which is what 'Zanana' means.

Surrounded by fortified walls and with g four watchtowers from where guards kept watch the zanana enclosure sure was wan imposing presence. Of the three mahals in the premsies two were burnt down and only the Lotus mahal remains.
This was the summer palace where by a network of earthenware pipes water that was got from three kms away was circulated through the walls to cool the same.
It is a lovely photo opportunity but unfortunately no one is allowed to enter as people has started carving the pappu loves munni stuff on the walls.
