This fort or mahal was built for Jahangir's stay for a night. Lovely to go though the entire complex especially at the top levels. Must visit. Part of fort complex It apparently take upto 20 years to build and was built to exercise the tax of the state.

Jehangir Mahal: Built by Raja Bir Singh Ju Deo in the 17th century to commemorate the visit of Emperor Jehangir to Orchha. Its strong lines are counterbalanced by delicate chhatris and trellis work, the whole conveying an effect of extraordinary richness.

If you are interested in and awed by Indian historic architecture then do come and visit this place. The setting, the lovely views inside and outside as well as the imagined court life are just great.

This old palace in Orchha is a great place to visit if you are in the area or driving on to Khajuraho...the tiered palace has some unique features and is worth the stop.

After exploring Orchha Fort we walked across to Jahangir Mahal, here we spent time viewing the amazing paintings on the ceiling. I am afraid without strategic preservation and restoration works this amazing art work will sadly fade away.

The beautiful palace in Orchha really takes you back in time with its wonderful depictions of " ladies in waiting " , pictures of the countryside as well as every day life in early India. The " drawings " of horses and other animals are really a site to see. Throughout the Palace there are many little alcoves with lovely archways.... More

This is part of Orchha Fort, the main attraction in Orchha. This section of the fort was built by Vir Singh Deo Bundela for welcoming Jahangir. Jahangir stayed their for 1 night only and this section was never in use of the Kings of Bundela. The architecture is mixture of Arab, Mughal & Indian Art. Bundela king decorated the fort... More

A brilliant architectural and esthetic creation particularly compared to the merely large - big-is-better- brick and cement structures.
