This is a key attraction when visiting Nafplio. Sitting atop a mountain, this fortress with its steep cliffs down to the water on one side, high walls and strategic location would seemingly make this a hard place to conquer. Yet, one year after it's completion it was lost by the Venetians to the Turks. Hiking around this structure can take... More

It's not exhausting trek on the top. Just a little effort :-) than you can find amazing view for the city and bay. You can see Mt. Kyllini well. The castle is huge. We thought we got to the end, but it turned out to be another part of the castle. You should reserve about 2-3 hours for sightseeng.

We decided to take a taxi up to Palamidi Castle, enjoy the views and then take the 1000 steps down to Nafplio. A delightful few hours.

Too much history.. Such a nice view.. All gathered at this place. At the fortress of Nafplion, Palamídi. It chills your spine when you realise all the torture and the fight those monsters of Greek history went through. P.S: Take some time to read the basics before the visit or organise a guided tour. You will get to know better... More

A very pleasant morning walk around the 300+ year old Venetian Castle which sits on top of the city. We drove up as our footwear was inappropriate for the 1000 step challenge. The fortress has 8 independent battle stations, impressive stonework and is the home of the prison (dungeon) where Kolokotronis was held captive. Aerial views of the city can... More

A castle with a lot of ruins and history. You can either decide to take a taxi up till the entrance of a castle or trek 1000 stairs. From the top of palamidi castle you can view the new town of nafplio, beach and water castle.
