Nafplio is a wonderful destination very close from Athens. Visit Bourtzi, Palamidi, a wonderful experience, a bit tiring as far as Palamidi is concerned, but a wonderful view, also a beautiful city, or at least in 3-4 days you will explore it from one end to the other ❤️ have a great time !!!

This a very nice, relaxing walk, especially right around sunset. It's odd, there appears to be a gate blocking the path off, but there are lots of people walking the path from both directions, so it's hard to say if the gate is for people or just for some sort of vehicle traffic that is no longer allowed. Not sure.

If you are at Nafplio you can not miss it. It is right in front of the sea. A great area to walk around with several cafes and restaurants. Most of the year is crowded especially in sunny days but worth a lot as the view is stunning and have amazing spots for several photos.
As locals say avoid the restaurants on this area,
It has also a hidden area after the lighthouse which is forbidden to pass due to hanging rocks but many people were passing.
This area is even better and not so well known as the one in front of the port

Superb walk, towards the small beach of Arvanitias, +- 2 km long from the port of Nafplio, along the sea.
Wooded path, very well laid out, lined with numerous cacti, rest areas, flowers, a tunnel... Very photogenic.
Note: access has (normally) not been authorized for several years, but given the beauty of the site, many passionate walkers go there.
Accessible to everyone, even with a stroller!
Don't hesitate to go there, you won't regret it!

The walk along the promenade is very beautiful, the entire promenade that runs along the port is beautiful, dominated by very large yachts. Nafplion is a beautiful and very clean town, obviously extremely touristy! Perfect for families with children, safe and full of play areas. Many places and a walk, that of the old art, truly pleasant. Tourist prices on the port, to be avoided, which become acceptable inside

This charming little seaside town, with its seaside promenades, its castle, its small town center, is the perfect place to rest for a few hours.
It is a tourist town offering new shops & services.
It is also a very photogenic place.

I completed the costal walk from the harbour area out to Arvanitia beach. This is a beautiful walk along the sea and has great views. I didn’t bother spending any time at the small stony beach as it didn’t appeal to me. To get back to my hotel I walked up around the Akronafplia fortress which again had great views.

For sure Nafplio is the most beautiful town of continental Greece.
So is its promenade stretching all around the town with numerous cafes and restaurants right by the sea. A perfect place to walk after dinner when the temp cools down.

Great port full of historic landmarks. Easy to access with ramps for people with special needs. It will win you the Bourtzi that adorns the waters of the harbor. It is full of great cafes and restaurants for all the skyscrapers.

If you are on Peloponnese, I highly recommend to visit the city of Nafplio, too. Its streets are amazingly beautiful and promenade around the sea is gorgeous, with one view on the nice Bourtzi Island Castle and on other on the hill where old Venetian Palamidi Castle stands.
City of Nafplio was one of the first capitals in the modern Greek country in the 19th century and therefore it is much history in there with statues like of Otto, Greek king from Bavaria, and the first president of the modern Greek country, Ioannis Kapodistrias. Soul of the city is medieval Venetian with great Greek additional taste in the shops and restaurant everywhere. Sea is clean and nice blue, you can even swim to the Bourtzi castle there.
It is near the Ancient Mycenae and Theater Epidauros and small village Tolo has nice beaches nearby. It is much to do there but be sure that you don't miss this fascinating city of Nafplio.

What is the best way to reach napflio from Athens in the month of December?
Written August 22, 2018
Oh and I’m pretty sure that there were no feasible train or bus options- car is a must AND you need it to get to the world class ancient sites in that region which are a MUST. When booking car hire in Greece, go with a reputable international dealer (Thrifty, Hertz) as they have a reputation for ripping you off if you go for a smaller company (indeed this happened to us in Rhodes with Global). I’m sorry to say that there are a small proportion of folk who think it is ok to rip tourists off in Greece, although the vast majority of people in Greece are completely lovely.

During summer season you can find ferries from Nafplio mostly to the Saronic islands (Spetses, Hydra, Poros, Aigina). For more information you may contact the administation portuaire in Nafplio (nafplio.gr/limanialimenarxeiomenu.html)

Is it best to do this town on our own or take a tour.??
Written April 13, 2015
If you are going to be driving in Greece, make sure you bring with you International Driver's Permit. I do not know where to procure this in Australia. In the U.S.A., we got ours through AAA.
Napflio and surrounding areas can be done in 2 full days. We rented a car at Athens Airport and drove to Napflio for about two hours. Road and traffic is good from the Airport to Napflio. Having a car is the only way you can enjoy and have flexibility to visit and see Tiryns, Ancient Nemea, Mycene, Epidauros, Palamidi Castle, etc.
On your way to Nafplio from the Airport, stop by and see Corinth Canal. From the "freeway/highway" (like and autobahn), take the Isthmus exit for a quick look. You can park and walk to the middle of the bridge and take pictures. If you leave the Airport early, you may even get to stop by Ancient Corinth since this is on your way to Napflio. When in Nafplio, never miss a boat ride to Bourtzi. It's about 15 minute ride for about 5 euros each person. The boat will wait for you for about 20 minutes to stroll within Bourtzi and take take pictures. Make sure to take picture of the Palamidi Caslte about few minutes when the boat departs from the Promenade. It's a picturesque view.
We stayed at the Agamemnon. It's right on the Promenade in front close proximity to the sea wall. It's nice to stroll at the Promenade early morning and at sunset.
