Great view from the castle, however the tour was all in Catalan and we only speak English and Spanish. The church was only open with a guide so they should have offered more tours or been able to give information in Spanish. The cafe was good, laura provided excellent service which is one of the only reasons this review isn’t horrible. The hotel looked nice enough especially for $120 a night, but I found the reception desk very rude. With better customer service it could be a great place to visit.

Historical and landscape or exceptional complex. Guide tour, a tenner. Guide, Monica was able to make us travel and. Understand the average age and historical evolution of the Castle. It is very grateful to meet people who in addition to Pro is passionate about their work. Fully recommended.

Was road tripping around Catalonia with my girlfriend (she is from Barcelona) and we checked out this castle. Despite the years of war and bloodshed the region has seen this castle has not be conquered by force and it is very well intact. Currently it is part of a hotel (which I am sure is lovely) but we did not stay there. Luckily there was a tour in English and we got to be escorted around the grounds and learn about he history of the castle and Cardona. The tour was worth it, as you got to see much of the castle and it's church and had a nice visual presentation at the end of it's siege during the war of Spanish succession. If you are in the area of Cardona, I highly recommend visiting this.

If you look at the website it seems to imply that access to the castle is only on official guided tours at pre-booked times. This isn’t entirely accurate - the official guided tours get you access to a couple of extra places in the castle. The rest of it is entirely free to access. Part of the castle is a Parador, and the café run by them at the very top is very nice - good service and good food. The castle is pretty huge, and bits of it are in better repair than others. There are very few places you can’t go, even if there are warning signs which don’t bar you from entry, just telling you to be extra careful. If you walk up from the town, it’s a brisk climb, but well worth it. Glad we did it.

Cardona makes a nice day trip from Barcelona (it is about one hour away). If you combine the visit to the salt mountain with a visit to the castle, you will enjoy a comprehensive cultural getaway. Both attractions offer dramatized visits… if you have young kids (5-12), I would suggest to go for them.

Worth a stop if you are in the area. We spent two nights in the hotel (parador), but it is interesting enough just as a castle. Commanding view of the city and surrounding countryside and distant mountains. Has a church and convulted hallways, battlements, a central bastion you can climb. Worth a bit of time if you are in Cardona, though I wouldn't drive out of my way to see it. Very good restaurant, too.

Beautiful castle, and not all of it is in tip top shape which adds to the charm (but watch your kids). Catalonians are so proud of their towns and area, great to talk to (underlined). Was planning to stay in Cardona for a night, but rather took a daytrip from Solsona (which I loved so much). The town is not renovated like Solsona, so I prefer Solsona as there is more to do and see (also because of size). But well worth a visit. Main attractions is the castle, the salt mines and the surrounding trekking in nature (which also got old charming buildings), so it only takes a few hours. The castle does not take much time, but spectacular view and so much history! The whole town has a great view, as it is on top of a hill and the castle the highest point. Fee for entering inside the church and buildings, but you can walk around and top of the castle.

Super unprofessional staff. Needed to wait 20 min a restaurant just to have their attention to give our order. Generally hotel staff leaks professionalism,no feelings of 4 star hotel.only good thing there is a castle and very good views. We had very bad experience. Not worthy to spend that much money!

The castle is in perfect condition. It is beautiful, massive and huge. The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular. Free parking near the castle. By booking a guide, for a fee, you can also get to the parts of the castle that are closed to the public.

What are the visiting hours of castle cardona for tourists? I can't understand the website. I'm thinking of visiting in June 2020, maybe Sunday June 28th or Monday June 29th but the website makes it look like tickets are only available on the weekends. And one person posted that it is free to visit the castle. Can someone help explain this? Do you have to buy a ticket or a guided tour to visit the castle? What are the hours that the castle is open or closed? Thank you!

Hey there!
Cardona is a smaller town and it appears to not get a huge amount of tourism in general so I think the tours are only on the weekend. I think July and August are the only months you would get an English speaking tour for the castle, but I may be wrong so it's best to shoot them an email to see if you can get one. I think it costs 8€ for an adult ticket, and the tour is just over an hour. You can book these online as they may not have a tour guide there for English speaking tours if there is no interest as the tour guide I had was hired by both the castle and the salt mine in the town and would bounce between the two.
The castle itself is "free" because it is also a hotel but there are sections of the castle that can be accessed via the tours. If you cant get a tour I still recommend checking out the castle as the views are amazing and the town is lovely as well.

Bon dia!

How do you book a trip to the castle with an English speaking guide? (On the official website I can see only info about Spanish and Catalan tours). Also, can you go round without a guide? And is the town worth visiting?
Written June 6, 2016
Not sure about the English speaking guide. I went there with my friend and his family(there are natives) on a Sunday afternoon. Entry is free. For me, it was a worth visit. There you can find very detailed information about the Castle history in English.
Cardona is a nice place. Cardona attractions are mainly its Castle, the Salt mine, and the Town Historic center. For visiting Salt mine, you have to book advance. No sure about English speaking guides. It will be a nice experience. From Castle, you can have a long view of Salt mine.
But not worth to spend much time in historic center, just to walk a bit and take a drink to the main square maybe (better if you do this Sunday morning as there’s the local market)
