Recently the city corporations made huge modification to make the beach a family friendly place. Unfortunately the food is not healthy. or hygienic.
There is no convenient place outside for eating and so you are stuck in the building. which makes no sense.
The beach concrete seating arranged in stairs ifs all in the open making it inconvenient to enjoy.
Insufficient parking makes it difficult to park anywhere walking distance from the main beach infrastructure.
The natural look and feel has been lost to modernity.
You may like to try Parke beach which for some may be a little far away but it does have a more natural beach appearance.

It is very close to Chittagong City. You can visit the sea beach while visiting Chittagong. You can enjoy windy weather there.

We visited Chittagong hill tracts and last day Patenga Sea Beach. It was a wonderful tour. Firstly we visited Rangamati - Buddhist vihara, Chakma King House, Kaptai lake cruise to Shuvalong waterfall, Marma tribal village, Weaving village, Asham Bosti, Tobolchari, Burmese Market and Hanging Bridge. In Bandarban we visited Meghla Hanging Bridge, Golden Temple, Nilachal, Shailapropat & Nilgiri. Our full tour was enjoyable. Patenga Beach is a nice beach

Patenga beach seems to be the hang out for locals on their holidays and free time. It's a bee-hive of activity with a bazar selling preserved fruits, jewellery including glass bangles, coral and sea shells among other trinquets. The beach is strewn with little pull carts with gas stoves (I think they were gas!) making local snacks. Chot-puti is one. Then there are a few eateries and more shops along the access road to the beach. However, as people come their on holiday, I felt everything other than food was slightly over-priced. Touristy places tend to charge premium prices.
The sun-set is nice and you, and as this is really close to the city harbour you can take lovely pictures of sun set. with a decorative element of ships in them!
The beach is not that beautiful...the sand is mud color...and if you are thinking of a golden sandy beach this is not one for you.
It is a really good place for people watching and the atmosphere of so many people.

Patenga is a dirty beach. It is not worth going there. They have a few food stalls near the beach where the food is horrible. You can see some Mother vessels sailing far away from the beach.
