We drove 70 km just to find out that foreigners with non-Slovak SIM card are not able to purchase the ticket for parking lot. So unless you do not have Slovak SIM card avoid this place and do not waste your time.
The mayor of Cicmany should wake up and realise we are in 21st century and place at least 1 proper parking automat.
Shame we did not read the reviews here before, would save us plenty of time which we could use for other places with normal parking possibilites.

A hidden gem near Žilina, it s weird that this village is not mentioned In most of travel guides.
A whole village of wooden houses with very distinctive carvings and styles. Time stopped in this very 'pitoresque' village.

This is definitely a must-see for every tourist. Entry to two houses with expositions is only 3€ per person and it’s possible to get a guide as well. The houses inside depicts traditional life in a Slovak village, interesting facts and items.

This village was on mine "travel list" for quite a while. You can experience an amazing walk through its lovely streets surrounded by wooden houses which are decorated with traditional folk symbols all over it. A white exterior folk paintings has different patterns. You can visit a folk museum to see how people used to live in the past.

Cicmany is a small but very interesting village just 40minutes ride from Zilina (or 1 hour 15 minutes by bus). The northern part consists of wooden houses with traditional white decorations. The other part is just regular houses. After a big fire at the beginning of 20th century, many villagers built brick houses and the rest built traditional wooden ones with support of the government which wanted to preserve it. There is a museum - 2 houses. In one house there is exhibition of traditional life - clothes people wore, how they did they hair, how they buried their dead etc. In other house, there is exhibition of how they lived in such houses (20-40 people per one house) so there is furniture etc. Next to the museum there is cafe with souvenir shop (really good coffee btw!). Then there is pension Javorina with traditional slovak meals, but very slow staff (had to wait 50minutes for simple dish to arrive). You can walk around the village, there is beautiful nature, peoplewatch the villagers. Definitely worth visiting! If you like sports, for more days (to go skiing, on bicycle etc..)

Just stunning; a bit of a drive to get to Cicmany but I wouldn't have missed going here.
Beautifully decorated log houses in patterns originating from the women folks embroidery and table cloths.
A museum that's very interesting and a couple of coffee shops made for a very pleasant couple of hours.

You’ll love this. This village is unlike anything you’ve seen , it’s so lovely, quiet, wonderfully decorated little houses. Amazing services as for the turism, nice staff everywhere. I recommend to the the guided tour within the two houses and also the gift shop (you gotta have the traditional Cicmany pattern on your new tshirt right?) and the coffee house they make delicious ice coffee. You can pay by card in the whole area. I’m Slovak and this was my first visit of Cicmany.. so def not a last one 😁

Čičmany is a breath taking place! Little old wooden houses decorated in traditional way seem just like taken out from some cartoon. Definitely worth to see.

Unique folk architecture. Traditional decorative motive from Cicmany was used for Slovak national outfit on Winter Olympic games in Sochi 2014. History of this petite village dates back to 1272.

Beautiful UNESCO village preserving their folk style. It is worth the visit!
There is not much shadow on sunny day of shelter on a rainy day, so better to plan the visit according to the weather ;)
