Just follow the main roads

Four of us drove out to the beds in my Jeep Compass 4x4 and I'm very glad we took it for the high clearance. Not recommended for regular low slung vehicles! Our hopes were high because of the notoriety this area has received over the years. But, alas, easy pickings were not to be found. The area has been worked... More

We love the Hauser Geode beds. Many acres of BLM land to ride atv's in to several great rock places. We don't find a lot of geodes, but than we aren't into a lot of hard digging. Would rather walk around with eyes peeled on the ground LOL. Quite a ways out, best if you spend a few day days.

After reading on the web and the gem trails book we own, we were not sure if we could find the geode beds way back off road. We had no problem, just keep to the main used roads. The road from the interstate down to Wiley's Well was horrible, very bumpy. Keep going past that and coon hollow campground and... More

We ended up walking in the last couple of miles, as the rod is pretty rough with large rocks ...hence high clearance ...takes a good 45 minutes to drive all the way back off blacktop... You have to kind of know what you are looking for, as LOTS of potato like rocks that are just rocks..

My family used to come out here in the early fifties on rock gathering trips. They used to find lots of large thunder eggs. People are still finding Geodes out here. I went out just to find some of the old places we collected at when I was a kid. The main roads are a lot better now but you... More

We found the roads better than expected. The roads were rough in a couple places, a SUV did just fine. There are a couple places where the roads braid. But look a couple hundred yards ahead and you'll see the path. There are sign at the first two intersections getting there. You'll see dig sites. We went with small tools,... More

Did a lot of research before we went on this adventure. Rock hound sites made it seem easy to find the spot and as if there were geode's o'plenty. Not so much. A bit difficult to navigate the roads. Vehicle with high ground clearance required. We did find some Geodes. Not as large or as many as we expected. Nor... More

Good fun. Not a great haul, but excellent first trip out here. Great time of year to do it. Didn't get too hot. Watch out for the flies - they bite! More annoying than painful though ;)

We had some help before we arrived of what to look for. As soon as we stopped we were picking up little geodes off the ground. After a bit of looking we found a nice bed of geodes that were a nice baseball size. In about an hour we filled up our bucket. Husband enjoyed it so much he already... More
