The Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is only a fairly short drive away from San Diego and other Pacific coastal towns and provides a sharp contrast in scenery and activities. Less noise and pollution. More peace and natural beauty. After a rain shower there are plentiful...More

If you live in Southern California, there’s no reason to NOT visit Anza Borrego! From San Diego, it’s only an easy hour away. Remember those California commercials where you can be surfing in the morning, hiking by the afternoon, and then go off-roading by the...More

The winter rains showered the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park with just what was needed for an amazing bloom this spring. Many of the flowers are low down so get out of your vehicle to enjoy the lupine, sand verbena, poppies, desert lilies, etc.

Anza is a great trip. The hikes through The Valley canyons are really exceptional. Hellhole canyon is less crowded than borrego springs and great. For campgrounds, Yaqui pass is free, but very exposed. Especially over winter, it's very windy up there and it makes cooking...More

Great museum and history of the area. There is an entrance fee for the State Park. Staff was friendly and helpful. I just wouldn't want to be there in temperatures over 80 as being in the sun makes it feel even hotter!

Huge open expanses of parkland. Amazing blooms. The docents at the park headquarters were knowledgeable and friendly.

Many wonderful options for hiking. Beautiful place. April is a quiet time to go, most tourist leave by the end of March. Temperatures were ok, low to mid 80's, one day at 94*.

There is no classic story, such as a Von's, Ralph's, Bristol Farms or Whole Foods. There are two small stores in town, about a couple miles from the visitor center.
