This is a huge park and will not be explored in a mere weekend. It holds evidence of prehistoric life, the first humans, Spanish explorers, and early pioneers. It is a designated "Dark Sky" area and is excellent for star gazing and astrophotography.

This park is HUGE and diverse: tons to see and do. Good dry and full-hookup camping near the visitors' center, and ample primitive camping elsewhere in the park. Great visitors' center with a really dedicated corps of volunteers who obviously love the park: they're your...More

Anza Borrego is a beautiful desert Park. This is the low, Colorado (I think) desert, so it is very dry and with more sparse vegetation than the high desert I visit more often, but one of the advantages is a large number of ocotillo cactus....More

I was trying to find a park in CA that I have heard about not visited and I settle on Anza Borrego especially since I have an off road capable vehicle. Spent 3 days there. My takeaway is it is a park best suited for...More

We really enjoyed the Palm Canyon Trail, but it felt much longer than 1.5 miles each way. We took the alternate path on the way back & highly recommend it so that you get a different perspective at a higher elevation. We’re avid hikers, so...More

We just love Anza-Borrego! It's quiet (except during a super-bloom), well-managed, and well-maintained. The bathrooms at trailheads are clean, and the rangers are helpful and well-informed about current trail conditions.

We checked out this State Park for a quick getaway. It was beautiful in its own right. The landscape is unique in every direction. To do it right you need a high clearance vehicle or 4WD but for certain areas we did see 2WD cars....More

Every night stars! Milky way was easily visible. Coyotes, quails. Camped in trailer. Xtra quiet area with spotless bathrooms cleaned daily. Friendly hosts. Not a whole lot of hiking without a lot of driving to a trail.

Anza Borrego DSP is one of the largest state parks in the US. Spanning 650,000 acres, it would take years to explore the terrain, with elevations ranging from 100-6000' plus. Start at the visitor's center and talk to the well-informed staff about where to go...More

It can be, especially on the weekends. The busiest times are during the peak wildflower period. I've found that it can even be difficult to find a parking space at the visitor's center during this time. However, the area is... More

You can try Split Mountain. The road is pretty decent unless it's rained recently, then it turns to total mud, but the campground is slightly elevated. Culp Valley is great, but the road sometimes has ruts. The good thing... More

Some of the hotels and resorts have special Christmas activities and dinners, so you might want to check with them. Lots of outdoors things galore. It's a nice time of year around Christmas. The temps will be mild.
