We saw a totally different landscape than we were used time to (we're from New England.) It was beautiful. We stayed over to see the stars as it's a dark sky area, but we happened to hit it when it was raining and cloudy! We will definitely return to see more. The state park is so large and has so... Go to the Anza-Borrego State Park welcome center when you arrive. You will be given maps and great advice. Many of the hikes have information pamphlets at the trail head. If you can go in the next few of weeks, the desert flower bloom will be spectacular!

Make sure you spend some time looking at the exhibits at the visitor's center. Well worth an hour. There are also several short walks you can take around the visitor's center that will permit you to experience the desert flora, smells, and sounds. If you can visit during the spring flower bloom you will really be impressed. However the number... More

Go to the Park Headquarters and get their suggestions for the kind of hike you want to do. The Park is HUGE and some hikes are many miles trail head. Bring along a GPS and know your whereabouts.

Locals know about this place and since it is a state and not national park it is not highly promoted. Furthermore, it is out of the way. With all that, it is a great destination for the winter with walks and hikes for all types. Many folks "camp" in the park but we stayed at an Inn with amenities. Try... More

We decided to visit here while staying in the area. It took us a couple of hours driving to get there and perhaps, with hindsight we should have been better prepared for our visit. The State Park is very big with many different trails and camping sites. There is a modern visitor centre near Borrego Springs but when we asked... More

What can I say - I love being out in the desert and photographing all there is to see. Sunrise, sunset just gorgeous times to be out shooting. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is a great place for shooting nature.

By all means, if you have not yet found yourself in this neck of the woods, I ask you, Why not? The park is the largest in California and has some of the most diverse and extreme environments I have ever seen. If you feel you cannot see the beauty of this desert masterpiece, please go the The Visitor Center... More

Great hike like the Borrego Palms trail. Nice moderate hike up the mountain. Saw a couple mountain sheep, the palms and the creek. We love the natural feel with a well maintained trail but not to perfect.
