The Hansel and Gretel houses in Carmel are not open to the public but are private residences. They are located between 5th and 6th Avenues on the east side of Torres St. I am trying to clue folks into this because information on their locations are not easy to find on the web and TripAdvisor incorrectly has their locations in Monterey on the accompanying map!! We wanted to see these houses even if only from the street because of their importance to the heritage of Carmel architecture. However we intended to swing by on our way out of town on our way to the airport but were unable to locate them. Apparently one can see Hansel House from the street (or via street view on Google Maps) but Gretel House is obscured from view because of the gardens on the property. My wife and I enjoyed walking the streets of Carmel looking at the extraordinary architecture of the homes in the town and many of them are influenced by the style of the Hansel and Gretel houses.

This was kind of disappointing as there are so many interesting houses around this area. it is located in a hard to find location and most of the house is not visible from the street. Just drive around the area, and you will see many interesting and architectural houses of interest that you can see from the car.

Accidently stumbled upon the houses and was very pleased at how cool they were. Definitely make this a part of your trip!

I was expecting something different, it's just one house, most houses in Carmel are more picturesque

You can get a book and map or just google on the internet for info about the Hugh Comstock houses. These are all cute as a button. Mr. Comstock had a great eye for pleasing, adorable architecture.
