This garden does not appear to be maintained by any kind of official body, at least that was my impression, so it's hard to even call it a garden, more like someone's backyard with some stacked rocks. Since it doesn't require any kind of detour from the road, you can certainly stop here, but all of the rocks can be... More

This is a small garden, and you can finish viewing all the rocks within 3 minutes. But it is free of charge of cause. But there is nothing fascinating in here, except that the rock are stacked in a special way.

We were really excited about seeing the Gravity Garden after reading the reviews. But in reality what it is, is a pile of rocks in some dirt on the side of the road. Sure they are stacked up in a very cool manner and its very clever, but not worth your time when there is so many other beautiful things... More

As a long-time local, I strongly recommend Gravity Garden to visitors. Jim Needham's Gravity Garden in Carmel Highlands is known throughout the world. International visitors have stopped there for years to view his impressive stacked pillars of rocks and boulders on their way to Big Sur. His sculptures are free-standing and remain intact only because of his immaculate work to... More

I had read about the garden on TripAdvisor, and was interested to see the art of balancing rocks, having seen some YouTube videos on the art form. My group of four was reluctant, but agreed. We were all so glad we did. It was so impressive to see so many wondrous sculptures in one place, and this was only amplified... More

Right along highway 1, this is definitely worth a walk-through. The artist invites strangers to take a look around and even have a picnic. Total peace and love.

We were looking for something different to do or see in Carmel , and we certainly found it. We found the directions on Trip Advisor which led us right to the place. We parked right on the street after spotting the stacks of rocks around the garden. Jim, the artist, was watering his yard at the time and told us... More

It is worth a stop because it is unusual. However, not much time needed to be devoted. 15 minutes will do it. Easy access from Highway 1.

Visited 7-25-13. Had read about this unusual garden on Trip Advisor; decided to stop when we went to Carmel. After visiting Point Lobos (beautiful) we drove south on Hwy 1 about 7/10's of a mile and on left you'll see rocks stacked. We parked on the side of the road. There is a gas station & store on left just... More
