Ocean avenue is a fun place to spend part of the day shopping, stopping at galleries (So many galleries!), and eating. There are wine tasting rooms, fun upscale clothing and home furnishings shops, bakeries and coffee shops, and lots of charming little walkways and alleyways leading to even more shops!

Ocean Avenue is the "High Street" (British term) or "Main Drag" (US) of Carmel by-the-Sea. It runs east-west and DOES run down to the ocean (local joke- a visitor standing on a part of they street obviously sloping towards the sea asking a local "which way to the beach"). I has many shops and restaurants, however, most cater to the... More

This street is charming. We visited at Christmas time and everything was lit up and the stores were ready for Christmas.

This is a must stop whenever you are in the area. A lot of shops, restaurants are in this area. So take your time to stroll and sample their wine and cuisine. Take note of the happy hour where there is free sampling everywhere! Not to be missed! Definitely a highlight!

I could spend days strolling down Ocean and visiting the shops. There is such a variety of boutiques with clothing stores, art galleries, body products specialty shops and cafes. I spent days there last month and still feel like I haven't seen it all. Take time to talk to local proprietors. Remember to leave your high heels at home.

No mall and many little independent shops. Many art galleries you are transported to another place and time. Love spending time here.

Romantic & Fun. Good restaurants, fun shops, and beautiful art galleries. There is something for everyone. Don't forget to go to the beach and put your toe in the Pacific Ocean.

Lovely street in a very pretty town. Many shops and cafes/restaurants. Lots of dogs (well behaved and under control - just lots of them). Parking is free for (I think) two hours if you can find a space. Buildings looked generally fairly old and many shops seemed old and established. Everyone we met was very pleasant. Definitely stop and visit... More

Ocean Avenue is the heart of Carmel shopping and a pleasant stroll. There is an interesting variety of shops, and we found shop owners and staff both welcoming and helpful. The time flew by as we shopped and browsed.

This is what Carmel is all about. The buildings are old, have lots of character and thought some of the businesses come and go, character of the town never changes. It's fun to stroll the sidewalks and look in the stores and stop at one of the many pastry and coffee shops and have a treat or shop and if... More
