Small but Exquisite

A delightful escape. Native plants are the specialty here, tended by knowledgeable staffers. Plenty of wildlife, too...squirrels, lizards, birds, even a bunny. The perfect spot to relax and enjoy the symphony of nature. Will return!

So fun and informative!

I finally made it out to the gardens now that they opened thanks to the #localadventurechallenge! My previous experience with them was through a yelp elite event and their Taste Wild, so I was expecting a fantastic garden experience and was not disappointed!

Even on an insanely hot day, it was worth the walk-around and there was plenty of shade and lovely spots to sit and relax. Buying tickets online was easy and there was plenty of parking. They give you a map to follow when you check in and it was a good general guide that helped differentiate the various garden areas. I opted to walk through all of them except for the desert gardens due to lack of shade there, which they pointed out when I checked in, so that was a very helpful tip!

I was lucky enough to time my visit while they have “artists in residence” and their exhibits were so interesting and informative. They even had some pieces to take home with you if you want! I took one that was an illustrated booklet of various SoCal plants, insects and wildlife! So cool!

My favorite was the Sensory Garden and Butterfly Garden! The Sensory Garden is an interactive experience that holds various plants you can touch and smell and even taste! I especially liked the Sticky Monkeyflower lol! And the Butterfly Garden was just beautiful - I even learned that the California state insect is a butterfly called California Dogface lol! They also have some lovely ponds and water features.

Definitely can’t wait to come back in the spring when everything should be in full blooms!

Idyllic botanical garden featuring native California plants
Jun. 2020 • Friends
Idyllic botanical garden featuring native California plants. They’re open for timed ticket holders (8am-1pm or 3pm-8pm) and you can reserve the date and times it you want on their website. It’s $10 for adults and $6 for students with IDs. They offer annual memberships as well. You give your name at the ticket counter and then you get your allotted time slot to explore the grounds. Parking is free and there’s a lot.

The area is very peaceful and there’s plenty of paved paths for strollers and wheelchairs. There’s only one bathroom open right now and you need to bring your own water bottles in. There’s a ton of benches for you to sit and rest; most of the paths are super flat and even. There’s some shade but there are exposed areas so wear sunblock and bring a hat/sunglasses.

It’s a good spot to bring the family or go on a date or even take some time for yourself to walk around in meditative silence. It’s nice to see that there’s another botanical garden off the beaten path for people in the Foothills to enjoy.

Wonderful Oasis
Feb. 2020
I have visited with a class of students; with family; with my husband; and by myself. Wonderful oasis away from the stresses of life. I love the classes - basket weaving was one(harder than you might think) and special programs such as Things That go Bump in the Night. A really special place.

I like to walk through the botanic garden since I worked to cut branches and dead weeds. This botanic garden has the cultivar garden and gift shop.

Prepare Yourself
Mar. 2019
This place is a long walk but it comes with great views and wonderful hike through some of the most spectacular kinds of plants. If you play ingress be sure to start the mission early as it is a long one. There is minimum shade and a lot a lot of seating area around the facility. Except if you head out to the far seating lessons. Try going in one of the free days then its a lot more fun.

Probably the largest garden featuring California Native plant varieties in California. Easy well marked walking trails take you thru a myriad array of different landscapes with the plantings being marked and informative. Tours are available with Super knowledgeable docents and a great gift shop.A fun way to spend an afternoon with the Claremont Village shops and restaurants just 10mins away.

Botanical Garden?
Sep. 2019 • Couples
Honestly, every botanical garden I have visited had been extremely beautiful with trees, shrubs, and flowers blooming with extraordinary color. Now realizing where I was, I probably should have expected the desert like experience I found. To me it wasn't much to look at and enjoy, but they had various trails to enjoy a very nice walk.
