An excellent park that helps you understand how the Gold Rush started. There is a nice little museum & gift shop where you pay ( only $8 or $7 per car for seniors). They also show short movies about how it started (very good), and...More

This Park is a jewel: on the American River, original/restored buildings, demos - blacksmith was especially good - displays, trails - everything a State Park is! This was Easter Sunday and the park was filled with families enjoying time together. Check it out!

Location is between Hwy.#80 & Hwy.#50 -between Auburn and Placerville/Hangtown on Hwy.#49./ Many years ago, many old-time buildings burnt down, not reconstructed. They do a good job of educating you on the methods of mining, and some living conditions during that era. Went during winter...More

A short twenty mile drive south of I-80 to Coloma, California brought me to the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park. Discovery of gold here literally changed the world - for certain the United States. Of the 500,000 estimated travelers on the Oregon-California-Mormon Pioneer Trail...More

The wonderful historic fun for everyone is magnified during these special events, when vendors, artists and showman dress in period attire and show off their skills. Plenty of history to see, whether it's the mill by the river, or the museum, or the original brick...More

We happened by here during the Gold Rush Live living history enactment. It was a big event, I think, as far as living history events go. We had much fun listening to the re-enactors speaking in character. They were very convincing. There was a camp...More

This is a very popular state park. It was crowded with school children, but most had left by the afternoon. We visited the museum, but we're disappointed to discover that over half of it was closed due to renovations, which would be ongoing until December.

The visitor centre was a good place to learn about the discovery that started the Gold Rush. We also enjoyed the gold panning lesson for beginners across the road fr the visitor centre. Great gift store with reasonable prices.

Delightful museum, well staffed and free parking. Easy walk to the blacksmith place where the two fellows working were willing to explain to our grandsons how they made various items out of wrought iron and the history of the place. Then we went to see...More

We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit to Marshall Gold Discovery SHP. The Blacksmiths are a wonderful group of volunteers who work hard to tell the story of the Gold Rush while sharing the art of their craft.
