This is a great river for whitewater rafting, swimming, hiking, biking or almost any other outdoor pursuit. The location is great for those traveling from San Francisco to Lake Tahoe. Highway 50 goes along the river the whole time.

The gorge section of the South Fork American River is a wonderful whitewater experience. It is the best class 3 run I have ever been on. Starts out easy but becomes more difficult as you enter the gorge. Rapids are mostly pool drop. A couple...More

The first time we've been rafting but definitely not the last. We chose AO (All-Outdoors) who looked after us impeccably - great service, lunch, conversation and a fair price for a brilliant day.

There are plenty of spots on the river to tube. Right in Coloma in the park for example. Keep in mind that you are required to have a PFD (personal flotation device) (in addition to your tube) or you will be fined and... More

If you stick between Coloma, the state park, and either the Lotus Park, or Camp Lotus, these kids should be safe enough in an inflatable kayak, as long as a knowledgeable, responsible adult was supervising... Of course, all... More
