- Rick MPortland, Oregon7 contributionsRide to Coronado Island and HotelThis was something new that we had never done before in the numerous years we have been visiting San Diego. The boat ride was short, about 30 mins, and walking around the island was fun. Took the local bus to the Hotel Del Coronado and walked through the grounds and hotel. This is where they filmed Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. Considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. Although I heard that they only filmed outside the hotel. Inside scenes were filmed at the studio. They had just recently refinished all of the wood work in the lobby when we visited in October 2022. There are some quante little outdoor eating spots that have views of the bay. Not many people around in mid October. A few of the establishments were close however.Visited October 2022Written February 8, 2023

It is so much fun not to have to worry about parking on the other side. Then we ate at the Fish Market and took pictures. Easy boarding with a physically limited person. Views of the city from the ferry were great. The $16 round trip seemed like a reasonable price.

Not far away is Ferry Center where we parked our bikes shopped a little and got a bite to eat. Walking paths and the public beach make this a popular little spot. If not limited on time, the ferry is an eventful way to access Coronado Island.
Rejuvenated, we rode back and said good-bye to beautiful Coronado Island and hello to a little Italian flair in San Diego.

Clean area ready to board the ferry. We did spend some time here just relaxing and looking in the gift shop. Great place to take photos of the sea and of USS Midway.

After dinner on Coronado, catch the last ferry back to the Convention Center at 10:30 and enjoy the beautiful San Diego skyline at night before heading to the Gaslamp District for a fun night out. Very romantic when you have the boat to yourself. The stairs are open to go up and over the Convention Center and straight into the Gaslamp, but it is a lot of steps.

Wonderful ferry ride! Short wait, and then a quick ferry tide to Coronado Island with the San Diego skyline view! My kids were not with me because I was on a business trip, but they would have loved the ferry too! $14 round trip for each person.

You can catch the bus, they run every 15-20 mins. It's just a short walk from the boat landing. Bus stop is just across from the Stone Cold Creamery on SE corner.
Quiero ir de coronado a San Diego. Me gustaría saber a dónde llegamos para planear cosas por ahí ya que llevo niños chiquitos.

Is there any parking spot near the ferry? How much is the fee? Thanks

Hi Maria.
Are you planning to take the ferry FROM Coronado or TO Coronado? If taking it from Coronado, you should have no problem parking in the large parking lot that serves the shopping plaza. It is free. The ferry leaves from the edge of the shopping center.
If, however, your departure point is San Diego, then that ia a bit more challenging. Any parking in San Diego is difficult to find and pricey.
The closest parking is the Convention Center and the cost is between $15 and $35 for the day. If you don't mind a little walk, try parking at Seaport Village shopping center. The costs are as follows:
Monday - Thursday: Validated self-parking: $5 for the first 3 hours or part thereof; $3 every 30 minutes thereafter or part thereof. Validation with a minimum $10 purchase. Non-validated self parking: $8 per hour or part thereof.
Looks like the Convention Center is the closest and probably the best option. There are some lots behind Petco Park but the neighborhood borders a transitional section (large segment of homeless population).
Maybe you'll be fortunate enough to say on the Coronado side (I love it there). In case you did not know (as I did not know), the Coronado Bridge is free as the bond measure to pay for it has long since been paid off. The views are pretty amazing along the drive over the bridge.

It’s about 1/2 a mile walk. Easy day. I would recommend you exit the ferry and head towards the Hilton, then use the foot bridge over the road and rail road tracks. It’s a nice view and not that much more of a distance.

We will be staying at the Hotel Del Coronado for a convention. How far of a walk to the ferry?
Thanks!

Some times during the year there is a free shuttle. Otherwise it is about a half hour or so to walk.

If you wear comfy shoes, it's great to walk to lots of other downtown attractions—like the Gaslamp Quarter, Seaport Village, the Maritime Museum, etc. Enjoy!

How far of a walk is it from Coronado ferry from the convention center to the Coronado beach once you get off the ferry

The ferry to Coronado is a matter of blocks from the San Diego convention center. Not far. From the ferry landing in Coronado to the Coronado beach is probably at least 20 minutes. We walked part way - 4-6 blocks - and caught an Uber or Lyft ride from there. We were on a "deadline" to see the sunset. Hope that helps.

Hi, there...we are planning to spend about 5 nights in Coronado to attend a convention at the Wyndahm across the bay...the ferry from Coronado lands at Broadway pier...does anyone know how far the walk is from Broadway to the Wyndahm? We'll have a car for longer day trips but we thought the ferry would be fun for some afternoon meetings, etc...thanks to all

Depends on how fast you walk. The distance is about 2 blocks.
