Ancient Greek city all to ourselves. We were the only people visiting, it was an amazing experience.
The site itself is not fully restored, there are piles of old roof tiles among the stone walls of ancient buildings. One of the theaters needs some squinting to recognize as a theater (the smaller). The bigger theater is huge and amazing. Very well preserved.

Don't miss it. two theaters, a small and a bigger one, the ruin of the market arches and a must see: an ancient hotel or market place calles Katagogeio. Close to Zalogo, above Kamarina village.
A hat and water are necessary for summer days.

This is the best archaeology site that we visited in the Preveza region. We were there at the end of July 2018. You will need to drive there and then walk 5 minutes to the main gates. The entrance fee is very reasonable. The site is very big and you will need at least 2 hours if you want to see everything. The views on the gulf are stunning. The different buildings are well explained and the theatre alone is worth the visit.

Kassope was built by one of the tribes living in the area aroun the 4th century BC , following a Hippodamian design. One can imagine the inhabitants in the sizable theatre, the market, the parliament, their rectangular homes. The view of approx 270 degrees is astonishing!

Sadly this place is, in principle, closed - probably having fallen foul of public spending cuts in the financial crisis. If that is so, it was a very bad choice by the authorities. Because Kassope is a jewel.
You will probably need a car to get there - maybe 90 minutes drive from Parga. So how do you get in? There is an opening in the fence a few metres to the right of the main gate. (We were tipped off by someone in the know at another site.) Once inside you can wander an extensive and once-glorious series of ancient ruins perched high up in the mountains above a wide plain that ends at the sea. Apart from the goats, you will probably be in your own. Just sit and take it all in - unforgettable!

This site is reached by a short walk through a lovely forest and is 2 euro's to visit.
The views from the site are worth this money alone but the real interest is in the remains of this ancient city. There is enough of the walls to paint a picture of this historic place and there are plenty information boards in Greek and English to explain what you are looking at.
Just further up the road is the monastery where you van see the memorial to the Souli Women high on the crag above. We got free turkish delight here given out by the nuns which was the most delicious we had ever tried.

An ancient city 2,500 years old. On a strategic point with a fantastic view of the entrance of Amvrakikos Gulf and the around area. Not far away from the main road and 30 min away from the closest beach.

we parked on the road and walked approximately 200 metres to find out the site was closed, only open at weekends, due to staff shortages. Unbelievable for an area of one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe. Subsequently we tried to go to Nikopolis, also closed. What is going on in Preveza?

Not as busy as it should be. A pretty large site of extensive and well preserved remains, with some fascinating features, including agora, streets and theatres. In a stunning position on a hilltop with amazing views... you can overlook the site of the sea battle of Actium where Antony and Cleopatra were defeated by Octavian (or should I say Richard Burton and Liz Taylor were defeated by Roddy McDowall?)
Little shade, so take water and sun cream.
