Was a little surprise at the $10 car park charge as you have to pay for everything inside so not sure why. We did the steam train ride and was 11/4 hour ride and reasonable value. Can take your own food or eat there. Really...More

I highly recommend the train tickets. Some tips... if you are interested in seeing the conductor navigate the engine, sit close to the front. If you don't have affinity to the diesel smell, sit in the back. Nevertheless, you will be in the back.

the journey takes you up through the redwoods on a lovely 100 year old steam engine and the conductor gives a talk all the way through which is very interesting and historical

Our friend treated us to the Thomas Train ride at the roaring camp so that our toddler and her son could truly enjoy the love of their life, THOMAS. The train ride was less than an hour and left us adults as well as kids...More

This was a last minute planned trip of the Railway.. had such a great time chugging through the redwoods on the narrow gauge. Make the effort to get out Santa Cruz and see this place! Really fun 1/2 day out.

Beautiful scenery and fun to watch train squeeze thru traffic down Santa Cruz streets. Been to SC a million times and this was first time on beach train. We loved it. The food and shops r great too at the depot part.

The steam train was an excellent way to see the Redwood trees. The tracks take you through different groves of Sequoias, and at the top of the mountain you get a 10 min break and a chance to see one lovely grove of trees, in...More

This attraction is great for children. The train engineer and conductor do their best to make this ride fun for all. The train blows plenty of steam and learning the history of the area was great.

Yes , I would call them as soon as possible to see what their policy is for refunds. They over sell the ride on occasion so the quicker they know, they can resell your ticket. 😊

As said by other answer the train cars are not fully enclosed. They have a couple with "roofs" but the sides are open. you would definitely want to bundle up.

Their excellent website shows the schedule for both the narrow gauge (steam) and the full size beach train (diesel electric). During the summer both trains make multiple runs. During the winter I think steam only runs once a... More
