We drove last memorial weekend (2017). I think the road was fine, some small potholes but won't make any damage to the car. Some road constructions were still going on. And yes, it's a long drive but totally worth it. Get off from my routines...More

We were in SF for Spring Break and midweek we rented a Mustang convertible and drove up to Ferndale. Our main focus was to see the Avenue of Giants. It was spectacular! Definitely a site to see! These trees are so magnificent. I'm disappointed that...More

The road is paved, but there are numerous potholes. The views however are worth it. Lots of great picnic spots. We sure enjoyed it.

What an amazing road! Narrow stretches on the edge of long drops and in terribleness condition. But the views! Mountainous, verdant dairy country, crashing seas and an enchanting stretch of forest as you approach Route 101. So worth it if you get the chance. But...More

Just another wonderful place along the lost coast. So many giant redwoods you lose count. Plan on taking your time.

It was winter and the park was not busy but open. Unfortunately budget cuts had closed the restrooms. The walking trails were accessible by foot only. Breath taking scenery among the giant trees

I drove Avenue of the Giants down to Meyers Flat and then took the Lost Coast Road back to Eureka. There are more potholes than road, it can take 4 hours to go 80 miles, there are a lot of curves and steep incline, lots...More

You should have no trouble driving the road in a van, as long as it is a sturdy vehicle and you take your time, we took our 38' motorhome over it. Just enjoy and make sure you gas tank is full.

Hi. We are driving from SFO (picking up car at 3pm) and heading to Redwood National Forest. Where is a good stopping point along the way for an overnight? Or is it reasonable to get all the way up to the base of the park before nightfall? We have one day for Redwood before heading to Crater Lake. One day in Crater Lake before heading to Lassen National Park and then one day to make it down to the eastern entrance of Yosemite. Family of 4 (16 and 14 year old kids) riding in a minivan :) Any input and suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

I'd say 4 hours from Santa Rosa, CA and 5 hours from San Francisco, CA. The Lost Coast Scenic Drive adds hours to the trip due to road conditions. We averaged 17 miles per hour.
