MacKerricher is a great place to observe whales, and it also provides a habitat for several rare plant species.

Mac Kerricher State Park boasts a seal viewing platform, hiking trails, camping and picnicking areas! And get ready for this.....you can visit for day use free! I haven't camped there, so I don't know what the camping fee is.

I've been coming up here since childhood ( I'm 68). Just north of Fort Bragg, CA, MacKerricher is a wonderful, quiet coastal park and campground. The highlight though for me are the incredible tide pools that are rich in marine life; nudibranchs, octopi and more.

Day visits are free, we walked the board walk and the views were amazing. It was worth the stop. The rangers were very helpful and friendly. We didn’t get to see any whales, but we did see sea lions.
