They did a beautiful job at displaying items in each room of the museum. The collection of they have in back of the horse drawn carriages and the room of how the living quarters were back in the day. It's a must see!!! Biggest collection I've seen.

while in the area, this is a must see as it portrays a vast history of the kern river valley and all that has taken place here for over a hundred years. the visitor friendly displays are a must see as well. the volunteer staff have always been friendly. do keep track of the kiddies as many displays can be broken by unruly kids...

I love museums, and this one is GREAT-----mostly because it's mainly confined to the Kern River Valley history. There's a whole room devoted to the movie industry and all the movies that have been shot locally. Many of the old TV westerns were done in the area. There's a lot devoted to local Native Americans with lots of artifacts. Also, as this area was a gold (and other minerals) mining area, there are plenty of displats reflecting that period in the Valley's history. If you're in the areA DON'T MISS THIS MUSEUM!

The Kern Valley is run by the local Historic Society. It's FREE and several times a year there are special activities (like during Whiskey Flat Days Festival!) that are just fun!

You can learn about how the Indians lived here, what they ate, tools they used. They have all this and more on display. Rocks and minerals found in the valley and shown. Many old tools and household items have been donated to show how the people lived.
Movie stars filmed hundreds of movies here and they have their pictures.
Mining was done and they have much on that subject in and outside to see. Wagons, even an old cabin.
