This is a must see in Pingyao, it gives you a good idea of what a City Temple looks like. Just like every village/town has a church in western world, every town/village in China has a city temple. It shows you all necessary elements that...More

Devoted to the city god. Various Taoist temples, ancient trees. Not exceptional but certainly worth visiting as one of the 6 attractions on your tourist ticket.

If you are even remotely interested in historic temples, do not skip this one. It was the most beautiful and interesting temple we visited in Pingyao.

Maybe the most beautiful place I've seen in China. Plenty of different rooms and spaces full of color and interesting explanations that let you understand a little bit about the configuration of the temple.

I have been to many many temples in China but this one really stands out. One thing I haven't seen before is a room for the Kitchen God/Goddess. Definitely recommended for people who haven't been to many temples in China and for people who have...More

If you don't have Chinese, you should either have a guide or give the Temple of the City God very little (or no) time. It is a fairly pretty setting and the sculptures are interesting but there's so much else in Pingyao! It's much better...More
