Great introduction to sulphur hot springs. The smell is not so bad and you don't smell it after a while. It snowed while we were there so it was really beautiful. Had a bit of problem finding it initially as the signs were not really clear but found it with google maps. Just drive in past the town and you... More

Extremely cool place. Tons of geyers, clouds of steam and hot water. A hike to the footbath is well worth it.

This attraction was free of charge and one can leisurely stroll through it at any pace. There are many areas for pictures and walking trails that bring you close up to the sulphur blow holes. Nice to appreciate the history of noboribetsu and how it became famous for its hot springs.

Hell Valley is what brings tourists to Noboribetsu. The hell valley is magnificent and mysterious at the same time. Only one track is opened during winter. Nice easy walk but the ground might be slippery in winter.

Jigokudani is an active volcanic crater at Noboribetsu. Its a must see place when you visited Noboribetsu. It gives you a mystical aura as it means Hell's Valley in Japanese. Try strolling all around the place to see all interesting statues.

Certainly a different view and wroth a few photos. It's not large and the fumes aren't overwhelming. No black hardboiled eggs here though (for those who've had them in Hakone). Visit if you're in the neighbourhood and have time to pass, but don't make it the central point of your trip out here.

It didn't have much bad smell from sulphur : ) The scene is nice that is really worth to visit! It must be praised that in the gift shop, which is located in the entrance. It has free service to borrow rain boots for traveler. Reason why I emphasised is because in winter time, it always snow and road is... More

The Jigokudani is the source of much of the onsen water in Noboribetsu. Right when we stepped out of the car, it smelled strongly of sulfur due to the volcanic activity but you get used to it quickly. Some beautiful landscapes in the valley that make for great photo opportunities. Unfortunately, the trails we wanted to hike were closed the... More
