$1.50 gets you one hour of parking, this is about right for the 2.7 mile walk around the Lafayette Reservoir. There is a considerable amount of wildlife you might see if you are attentive. The white pelicans are a unique feature that I have not seen elsewhere.

This is a can't miss location for those who like mild to moderate hikes. Has an upper rim that is about 5 miles in circumference with elevation changes of about 1000 feet and amazing views of the East Bay. Serenity at its best.

Love to walk this reservoir after work in the summer, and ring a chair and a book on a hot afternoon. You can do the loop in about an hour at a brisk pace. It gets lots of people walking but never feels too crowded.

Parking: Bring quarters or a credit card and don't be late back to the lot. That said, the walk around the reservoir is pleasant, diverse, slightly hilly, and a good walking workout. Give yourself an hour and a half [plus] for a casual, social walk. Exercisers finish much sooner. Dogs are permitted on leashes. Paved path with distance markers, intermittent... More

This reservoir is extremely convenient, especially if you live or work in the Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda area. You always seen tons of people walking dogs, pushing strollers or running around this picturesque greenland. There are many trees, several bathrooms and places to picnic. The paved trail is 2.5 miles and the unpaved trail is 4.7 miles (both with pretty good... More

If you have an extra hour or two, this is a great place to stop by and get a little exercise in. Run or walk (bikes are permitted only a couple times a week) the paved 2.75 mi loop by the water's edge or hike the upper rim's 5 scenic unpaved miles (pretty challenging). Scenery - the reservoir is a... More

A safe, clean, and quiet place to take a nature walk, fishing, and enjoy fresh air. The restrooms are clean, parking is good. I enjoy visiting the Lafayette Reservoir.

Over a four week period my wife and I visited this reserve twice, once at dusk on a warm summer evening, it was a delightful undulating 5 km walk around the reservoir on a paved walkway. Marked on the pavement each .25 miles was the distance walked so you know when you are coming to the end.Unfortunately did not see... More
