Neighbourhood: Hollywood
Hollywood undoubtedly conjures up images of movie stars and high-end lifestyles, and to this day, tourists flock here from around the world to see the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre and to catch a glimpse of the famed Hollywood sign up close. Celebrity impersonators and crowds give these areas the feeling of an amusement park while many clubs and hotels fill up around the weekends for late-night partying - the Hollywood club scene is a haven for thumping music and table-side bottle service. But parties aren’t the only way to enjoy this area, many visitors come to the neighborhood to sit back with a picnic to watch a performance at the Hollywood Bowl and those looking to stay fit trek along nature trails in the Hollywood hills and in Griffith Park.

Grauman's Egyptian Theatre is the other main Theatre on Hollywood Blvd, site of the first main premiere film showing cinema before the Chinese, but to me not as impressive, worth locating and soon to be owned by Netflix, really!

I had always wanted to visit the Egyptian and finally had the chance recently. Saw a few films here over the course of a weekend. They have lots of special screenings with special guests so definitely check the schedule. Also of note there is the main giant theater and a smaller theater down a ramp off to the side. Ticket prices for the screenings are good and occasionally you can catch a double feature. I don't know what the theater was like back in it's day but that was the only thing I found a little disappointing.... I guess I always assumed when I'd see it form the outside that the theater inside would be one of those great old movie palaces with fine details on the walls and ceiling. Maybe it was like that back in the day but now the inside is really nice and new but a little bit of a let down considering the outside walkway that leads into it. But that's nit picking. It's an amazing place to catch a film.

Don't forget to swing by the Egyptian Theatre! Just as gorgeous as the Chinese Theatre, just with a lot less handprints and a lot less people dressed as Elmo or Batman.

Everyone talks about the Chinese Theatre and skips over the Egyptian! The Egyptian theatre was closed for a convention when we visited, but its unique architecture and beautiful courtyard warrant at least a walking visit when in the area. Unique Egyptian architecture is fun and neat to see.

The Egyptian and America Cinematech program is a real LA gem. This is a truly great place to see a movie old or new. The repertory program is strong and many directors/actors/writers etc. often show up to discuss the films.

This theater is beautiful and elegant. I lived in Hollywood as a child but never got a chance to see it in person. I recommend coming here if you want to see a movie.

I was disappointed that so little of the original ornament was left inside the building. The theater's ceiling is cool, but that's about it.

This location is affordable and strands out in a hidden slot down the Hollywood strip. They were playing German movies with English subtitles at $12.00 a ticket witch is simply perfect if you enjoy that type of vibe. The scent of popcorn literally brought me though the doors.

Location is a 5 stars

A little old Hollywood horror flick to set the Halloween spirit. The Wolfman starring Lon Chaney on the big screen in a theater from a bygone era...PERFECT! The ceiling alone speaks volumes of the history in this old jewel. No Dolby surround or IMAX here. But for the film buff it is heaven. True quality as film was meant to be. Comfortable seating and amazing popcorn.

This is a great golden area Hollywood theatre currently home to the American Cinematech program. The program is a repertory film society and they show themed classic and modern films with lots of great guests. I wish I had time to go more often the films are always well preserved and presented flawlessly. The theatre itself is beautifully preserved.
