I have purchased a gift certificate for by boyfriend's anniversary as we were travelling to LA for a couple of days. Before the purchase, Martin was very kind and educated - after that, when I was trying to book the lesson, he was rude and...More
I hadn't been surfing in a long time and wanted to take a lesson to feel more comfortable going again. It was really helpful to get individual instruction from Sea Bear and he was able to tell me about specific things to watch for each...More
Overall, the instructor was attentive and clear. This was a private lesson for 2 people who had never surfed before, for 2 hours. We went early enough that we weren't really competing for space in the water, which made the first half of the experience...More
I had a great time learning to surf with Kapowui! They exceeded my expectations with their excellent customer service skills! Jonny was a great instructor and taught me how to anticipate a wave on my own! The owner was great too! I will definitely return!
This was our first time in LA! Compared to other surflessons we had before (Bali, Holland) it was a very clear explanation of the theory/technique. We had a great instructor (Jeremie)!
They promised us fun, great waves and the feeling of the surfer vibe... not...More
These guys definitely do a great job getting beginners to surf, they are super friendly and conveniently located right on the Parking lot in Venice Beach.
An absolute must activity to do when in Venice Beach!

My two teenage daughters and I had been trying to catch a wave all week but Kapowui stopped teaching for a few days due to large waves as a result of Hurricane Hector whilst other schools continued. That shows their focus on safety and having...More
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it
happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
