Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.

The Rink was nice a bit crowded as we went on a Saturday night. There was lots of security and live music.
The kids played in the small snow area and there was free sledding down a small hill as fake snow fell from the sky.
Food vendors were also on site.

I saw the square when getting off the Metro to visit the Grand Central Market. The market itself was great but I needed a couple Arizona Hazy IPAs to settle my nerves before retuning to Pershing Square Metro. I was actually laughing on the way back because the area was so rough it's funny. The kind of environment Grand Master Flash used to write about, albeit a different city. I was grateful I had been to the Old Den at Millwall to prepare for this.

It was far better on the day of the marathon when the city was packed but deserted the second time we went? Where are the people of LA hiding? And are there any police anywhere?

This small park is indicative of a city that has failed, it is dirty, full of human excrement, and drug taking homeless people.

This is the most depraved city I've ever paid to holiday in, even our cab drivers warned us not to go out at night.

I have never been in a city where drug taking is openly accepted. I have never been in city where homeless people sleep in the middle of the pavement. Every corner and alley stinks of urine, the city is strewn with litter and human faeces.

Do you know what saddens me the most? People step over or walk around people lying in the streets, they don't even batter an eye. A whole generation will think this is normal, or its socially acceptable to ignore people in need.

I would suggest Los Angeles has failed.

Sat in the park and caught up with an old friend. It was a beautiful sunny day! Lots of tables, chairs and benches and colorful characters for people watching. If you don't mine the colorful characters, it is a perfectly lovely spot to bring your coffee, laptop, lunch, and chillax.

Pershing Square was nothing special. When we visited there were some renovations in progress so some of the square was shut off. The food stands and unique item stalls were nice and the area itself was quite pleasant and clean.

This square is on the small side but is located right in the heart of Historic LA and right next to the metro station. The square honors general Pershing who led US troops in WWI. There is a statue of the general in the square but otherwise the square is not that impressive. I can imagine that many events are held here so it is functional for the locals but not so exciting for tourists. Perhaps the nicest part of the square is the view of all the tall buildings that surround it.

Much of the area is pavement but there are agreeable spaces of greenery and other flora. It is a major landmark in Downtown.

Opposite the majestic Millennium Biltmore Hotel, there is also an eponymous metro train station adjacent.

The square is sparse mainly unclean concrete and frequented by homeless, mentally ill people and is a waste of time in daylight and your mad if you go there at night even though there is a heavy police presence.

Oh and good luck stepping round human excrement.
