Neighbourhood: Hollywood
Hollywood undoubtedly conjures up images of movie stars and high-end lifestyles, and to this day, tourists flock here from around the world to see the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre and to catch a glimpse of the famed Hollywood sign up close. Celebrity impersonators and crowds give these areas the feeling of an amusement park while many clubs and hotels fill up around the weekends for late-night partying - the Hollywood club scene is a haven for thumping music and table-side bottle service. But parties aren’t the only way to enjoy this area, many visitors come to the neighborhood to sit back with a picnic to watch a performance at the Hollywood Bowl and those looking to stay fit trek along nature trails in the Hollywood hills and in Griffith Park.

Please don't go to Hollywood and waste your hard earned money. We are so disappointed and disgusted that the government even allow people to come here as a holiday destination.
We emailed them while we were there to inform them of how bad this is allowing this.
It is filthy, stinks of human urine and there is human faeces on the streets. Homeless overrun everywhere and tents erected. The place is just such a disappointment. My husband is a big guy and he said we are NOT walking the streets of an evening here I do not feel safe.
We even wanted to book flights to leave to come back home to the UK. Instead we hired a car for 4 days to get us 3 hour drives or more to get out of the area and still along the way we seen homelessness at its worst in a country that is so rich but looks worse than being a third world country.
We were threatened on Hollywood Blvd, seen someone's bag get stolen, I nearly kicked a needle when walking along the street with sandals on. We saw men playing with their genitals, homeless routing in bins, sprawled in streets, shouting at holiday makers and people urinating in the street.
If you still go at least you have been warned. I would suggest you go to somewhere else and change your holiday.

The wind blowing down Sunset blvd. picked up garbage from the overflowing garbage cans and created a cloud 4 stories in the air. My kid took pictures because it was unbelievable.
There was dog (or possibly human) excrement everywhere.
While lined up in front of the Palladium a crowd of about 2000 people watched scrounging homeless people eating out of the ocean of trash spread out around the overflowing garbage cans at the curb....I can't figure why. There's a free kitchen a few blocks further on.
Sunset blvd. is a tent city from...at least the Palladium down to La Brea.
I have to say that other major cities have more effective management plans in place to help street people (usually fenced, sanitary, urban campsites with toilets, security, medical aid, social workers...etc).
Most other cities also have garbage pick up when required....as opposed to trash tornados.
When my grandparents visited Hollywood in the 1980s (when that serial-killer was on the loose) they told me that it was a dirty, run-down place that wasn't worth the trip.

Hollywood should be on ever travelers bucket list of must see and do! Where movie magic comes to life!
Go see all the places where your favorite movie was filmed!

Iconic Hollywood sign which does not like up at night. Hollywood boulevard the street never sleeps and walk of stars. TLC Chinese theatre with stars hands/feet. Universal studios park and back lot studios! So much more!

Only down fall to this area, is it dirty like many citys. Homeless is all over sadly rampant. There is tents set up every corner, roads, or nook. It incredibly sad. Been many places this is one worst. I am sure all harmless but take caution for those who my be unstable.

But in a good way, the traffic can be quite hectic and in the summertime the sun can feel like its soaking all the moisture out of you, but Hollywood is a place you must see in your lifetime because its got great attractions and things to do with kids all ages.

I've been to Hollywood Boulevard a few times over the years, but it seems a bit filthy and out of control now. Folks peeing and sleeping on the sidewalks, pot smokers getting high next to young kids on the sidewalk and in restaurants. I even had several folks tell me sidewalk defecation happens frequently right in the middle of the daily hustle. I'm not sorry I missed that! Anyway, I enjoyed all the action, the lights, the sounds, the general big screen feel of the boulevard. And we never encountered a rude street performer...they were all friendly and not pushy. I was a bit surprised by that. Willy Wonka was the kids' favorite. I'm sure I'll go again in the future, but not with young kids.

You can;t get to the sign anymore but you can get close enough to take cool pictures of it. But you better prepare for it and find on line where to park and where is the best place for pictures. And than you can always see it from the Griffin Park Observatory but it is seen there from a long long distance.
