I did the self transport canoe rental. The customer service was fantastic, they provided everything needed to for the rental. My biggest concern was not having a roof rack but the provided the proper necessities to make it work. The best part of the rental was that it was only $70/day, no where in the area can you find a rental that cheap for a canoe. We loaded it up and took it to Lake Louise ($125/hr, rip off) and few other lakes in the banff/Canmore area. Highly recommend this company for all your rental needs 5 star service with affordable prices. The best prices!

We did the Mountain Biking Lesson/Tour in the morning session, plus we rented our bikes and helmets. We lucked out and ended up being the only ones booked, so we got a private lesson with Claude. He was a great teacher, super friendly, and definitely loves what he does. I hadn’t ridden a bike in over 15 years, so once he realized just how beginner I was, he tailored the lesson and I learned a ton. The bikes were high quality, and we felt so much more comfortable on them by the end of the session. Plus you can’t go wrong with the gorgeous scenery. I highly recommend Kananaskis Outfitters for anyone looking to give mountain biking a try!

We rented kayaks from Kananaskis Outfitters at their Barrier Lake location and had a great time paddling around.

They rent a variety of items between the Barrier Lake location and the Kananaskis Lodge location to help get you active and outdoors. Rentals are done on an hourly or daily rate and are reasonably priced. Kayak and canoe rentals include one PFD.

They also offer a variety of tours, details can be found on their website, and they have an outdoor shop at the Lodge where you can purchase various outdoor equipment and clothing.

Highly recommend renting a kayak, canoe or SUP to spend an afternoon at Barrier Lake.

My experience of renting a Fat Bike was extremely frustrating. I payed $60 to reserve a fat bike “full day rental”. When I arrived at the start of the day (8:30am) to pick it up, I was told I was not guaranteed a bike until 1pm, after all of the customers doing the 9am bike tour returned. I would have made very different plans had I known that. It turns out they tell you this information in an obscure location on the site- but it is not stated or obvious when you are clicking through to reserve and pay for your rental. Further, the confirmation email I received said nothing of the sort, which I read to confirm all the details.

Second, how is it reasonable to pay a full day rental in advance (reserving) when you are only guaranteed the requirement between 1pm-4pm?!

Worse of all, I was appalled at the way I was treated by the woman who I first spoke with when I was given this information. She was condescending, patronizing, not at all apologetic of the misunderstanding or the insane business policy, and blamed me for not reading my email (which I then demonstrated had none of that started!). When I tried to ask questions to understand, she just kept repeating the same statements, again making me feel as though I was an inconvenience for booking the rental, rather than her being understanding of my situation. Finally, I was deferred to a “manager”, who didn’t apologize either. She said she’d need to speak to her “boss”, who I later learned was her husband (and both of them own the business!). I was disgusted that an owner couldn’t even take responsibility for the mishap directly to a customer, but rather hides behind the guise of being a “manager” and not in control.

This was not helpful at all to me- and made me extremely angry and frustrated, especially for having driven 50 min to learn I may have had to wait 4 hours for a bike (when the friends I was with had bikes already).

I was then asked for feedback a week later following that, and I sent an email summarizing why I was frustrated. I received nothing in response from the owners. I will NEVER recommend this place to any one who can avoid it.

Hello Leigh, We are sorry you had a frustrating rental experience. Again, we would like to apologise for the miscommunication. We do feel the need to clarify a few details that your review leaves out. First, you waited for 15 minutes to pick up your rental, not 4-hours. I was informed by my team, immediately after you left with the bike, about this interaction and the aggressive, confrontational tone you took with them. Second, many people do not mind reserving a “Full Day” for the afternoon as hourly rentals are $25 and full day rentals are $59, so you only need to rent for more than two hours before you are paying the $59 rate and they like that they are guaranteed to get a bike on the weekend when we are busiest. However, based on feedback we have reduced our weekend fat bike rentals to accommodate all renters in the morning. We are also sorry that you felt condescended, and you did not feel “heard.” We do not assume to know how someone's week or morning has gone when they walk into our store. We treat everyone with kindness, and we expect to be treated the same. Unfortunately, you did not treat our staff in a kind, considerate or professional manner. I (the owner) was off on the day you rented. We have never met, and I have never “hid behind the guise of being a “manager.” Should you like to use our services again and will treat my staff with respect, we would gladly welcome you back. Customer service is especially important to us; our employees’ emotional safety and job happiness is too. Michelle – Owner

My husband an I reserved e bikes to use during our stay at the Lodge. We cut our trip short by two days due to weather. (No problem cancelling with the hotel). We called two days in advance to cancel our reservation and were told that they required 72 hours notice for a refund. They could only offer 50% credit for future use. We decided to go ahead despite the weather as we didn’t know when we would be back. My husband and I were given different bike models. My bike had significantly less assist or power than my husband’s. He ended up letting me use his. We paid the same fee for the bikes so pretty frustrating that one was poorer quality. Think twice before making reservations here as the cancellation policy is restrictive and geared towards locking in revenue instead of servicing customers.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience. Though we do have different cancellation policies then the hotel next door; our cancellation policies are standard for rental and tour operators as well as stated on our website prior to booking as well as on customer invoices. We gave you and your husband different bike styles based on sizing. One the ebikes gives more subtle assist in conjunction with proper shift; whereas the second bike gives more noticeable assist regardless of proper shifting. We have subsequently made changes to our bike briefing to address the different bike models.

Hello I’m writing to let you know of the outstanding help I received from one of your employees this week.
My family and I arrived this past Monday and AMY was fantastic and so helpful in booking our bike rental for today. She even stored my daughters bike that we brought with us when we took a break from biking.
She was super busy but took the time in showing me the features of the bike, and her demeanour was so bright and shining.
What an asset to your company!
Please thank her again and we appreciated the top notch service and equipment you had available.

We rented bikes and from the village and the bike was not tuned properly as when pedaling under load the gears slipped. We returned to exchange the bike the staff was great for the exchange and they offered me a full suspension as there were no hard tails left. I was grateful for the option but when I did ask if they wanted to set up my suspension that said we can but we usually don’t I was a little taken back as I was riding a large and weigh 160lbs. But a large can range from someone from 140lbs-260lbs and the suspension would be drastically different for the rider weights. Having suspension set can drastically enchants the experience riding in the mountains.

Also seemed weird to not have any bells in the bikes as a lot of the trials are hiking and biking and bell seems like another brainer to ensure safety.

Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed your free upgrade. I helped you personally and did offer to set up the suspension when you asked. As you were riding an easy trail with your family and seemed in a hurry when you declined the set up, I didn't think it was a problem. As for bells, they are not effective as a bear deterrent and we feel people would default to them should they be provided. Rather than using their voice, and carrying bear spray which is much more effective.

My husband and I were disappointed with our experience renting the mountain e-bikes. We were unaware that there were 2 types of models. One with great pedal assist and the other that didn’t have as much power. Someone came out to make sure the bike was working properly and we were told “it works, this bike is for a true mountain biker. The other bike gives more assistance”. Had we known that before we would of picked the model with more pedal assistance.

We didn’t make it to wedge pond as my husband and I were getting tired of switching bikes to give our legs a break. We had the bikes rented for the full day but only used them for a couple hours as it wasn’t enjoyable. Wish we were given the heads up about the different models prior to leaving for the morning. The lady in the shop was very nice tho.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our different ebike models. One of the bikes does give more subtle power in conjunction with correct shifting wheres as the second type of bike gives more of a noticeable peddle assist with minimal shifting - the difference in bikes is notable on flatter sections of trails. We have changed our briefings to be more clear about the difference in bikes prior to departure.

Our family of 5 (which included our 12,12, and 15 year olds) did the winter shelter building class. Claude was our guide. He was super engaged with our kids and got right in there to help with the digging of our snow cave/Quincy. We really enjoyed it and learned some cool things too. Claude also made sure he covered safety aspects of shelter building too.

The location of the shop couldn't be better if you're staying at any three of the Kananaskis hotels. The people inside were friendly and not at all intimidating to us newbies! My 5 year old daughter and I made reservations for xcountry ski rentals, on the extremely busy Family Day long weekend, and were in and out in under five minutes, and on the trail 5 minutes after that. We will definitely be back soon!
