Cool to see gems in the raw and polished

Only like 3 bucks to go in. Located at the Mariposa Fairgrounds, and you can also camp there for only 20 bucks a night with hot showers if cant get into Yosemite with your camper.

I liked this museum, but i am a rock nerd. The rest of my family was bored. Lots of cool rocks, gems ,and a huge gold nugget. I took about an hour to see and read everything. Most people will be much less.

We have been here several times. We have always done a self guided tour, but this time we took the guided tour, and it was very informative. You can spend half a day just looking at the mineral displays and reading all about them. Very reasonably priced.

Our Christmas trip started in Mariposa at the museum. It was pouring rain on 12/15 but we found the museum and headed inside to a welcoming employee. Our son filled out the questionnaire and was sworn in as a California State Park Junior Ranger. He had been studying about the California 49ers and so we decided to just go see... More

This museum has a lot of lovely specimens of California minerals, including not only the expected gold (Mariposa is on the southern border of California’s “Gold Country”) but malachite, azurite, fluorescent minerals, and much more. Some of the gold pieces are valuable enough to lock up in safes in the room called “the Vault.” The museum also has displays of... More

This is the best, very best rock, mineral and gem museum I have ever been to. I couldn't get enough of it. The staff was amazing and knew everything about everything in the place. The gift shop was stellar and I came home with all kinds of stunning gems. If you like rocks, do not miss this!

We stopped by on our way out of Mariposa and it was worth the stop. It's a state park and the ranger was very nice recommending another museum and surrounding area attractions (not many hehe). It's a pretty neat little museum filled with minerals local to the California area. The best part of it was a mine tunnel replica with... More
