I Googled hiking trails in Monterey and this was the first one on the list. It was fun to go to the mountains rather than just the beach on a trip to Monterey and it was only 15 min. from downtown. The park was not crowded but it was a Thursday afternoon. The Skyline Trail has a self guided path... More

My husband and I wanted to vary our walks in the area and found this hilly woodsy park. We enjoyed several of the loops though were thwarted from doing it all by a downed tree. The hilly nature of the terrain was a nice change from flatter ocean front walks.

Visited Late February 2016 non-weekend. No people there beside Park Ranger. Perfect weather, a bit cool, but what should one expect? Wonderful views, easy hike even for an old geezer like me. A few interesting formations, birds. Nice, quiet.

This place is gorgeous. The trails are fairly clearly marked and clean. Most of the trails aren't too difficult. Some hills but not too many. One of the trails takes you up and over the mountainside to a spectacular view of the Carmel beach. Stop by LaSalla's Bi Rite market and pick yourself up a sandwich and hike the trails... More

The area is surprisingly high for the Monterey bay area. Beautifull forest and a great view of Monterey. Very peaceful, but be aware this is mountain lion country.

I have lived in Monterey County all my life and finally decided to hike at Jack's Peak in 2015. Although it is not as popular as other parks in the area, it was soooo worith it, plus there are not many people. I've been back several times. All the trails are good and not too difficult. The view to the... More

Jack's Peak is a nice park with about 5 hiking trail options through the trees. It is very close to downtown Monterey and only took about 15 minutes to drive there. It is far less popular than the coastal parks of the area, which means it's not as scenic, but also means you can escape the crowds of tourists here.... More
