There were a lot of people just fishing off the pier but otherwise not much else going on. We stopped off at the cafe/souvenir shop by the entrance which seemed to serve fairly reasonably priced sandwiches but they were about to close when we got there.

I have rarely if ever been to Monterey without a stop at Fishermen's Wharf. I once was there in the early morning, and it was quiet. Only the fishermen were there, preparing for their day on the water. On this trip, we sampled clam chowder at several restaurants and enjoyed the view of the boats in the marina. It is... More

Very busy and crowded, all the restaurants stand out front and basically fight for your business while offering (just ok) clam chowder samples. I'll pass next time.

There are lots of shops, restaurants, whale watching, sailing, kayak rentals, sport fishing or just hang out. The historic old Fisherman's Wharf has something for everyone. Just a few steps away is the State Historic Park and the Walk of History. Always one of our favorite stops when we are in Monterey.

The Old Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey is not as bustling as it once was, approximately 25 years ago, but it's making a comeback. In this last visit it was apparent that new life is being breathed into the old storefronts on the wharf. New shops are moving in, some old ones have spruced up a bit, and modern eateries are... Fisherman Wharf is really only good just for a walk. It has lots of places to grab a bite and the usual tourist gift shops. The prices are high, $15 for a large clam chowder. It's really only worth going there, if you are catching a boat to go do some whale watching. For more and better action, go to... More

We enjoyed our walk to the Wharf, but it was really nothing special as were were not interested in buying touristy items nor eating there. But it was fun watching the harbor and the seals.

There are various restaurants you could choose and T-shirt stores. Great seafood restaurants as well.

We walked the wharf our first afternoon in Monterey. Unless you want to eat in one of the restaurants 45-60 minutes is plenty of time to walk and see the typical t shirt and souvenir shops. Nearby Cannery Row is a much better choice for shopping and restaurants.
