My husband and I toured California Cavern in September, 2016. It is located near Angel's Camp in California Gold Country. We really lucked out and were the only 2 people on the tour! Our guide was young and a bit awkward in places, but she knew the spiel well, and was able to answer them competently. She did warn us... More

Excellent staff, facilities, etc. but I only rated it a 3-star because this just wasn't my idea of fun. It's worthy of a 5-star only if you like this kind of stuff. Prepare to get muddy a little bit from the knees down to your feet. Do not wear flip-flops and plan on getting your shoes a little bit muddy... More

Of all the nearby caverns, this one is without question the most qualified to claim an ADVENTURE tour. They have a short and easy basic tour, a longer mid-level tour and a challenging extended Deep-Earth tour that even includes quite a bit of water during the wet Spring season, that provides an experience you'll be talking about for years to... This was unexpectedly a great adventure. We grandparents are somewhat limited physically and were thrilled that we made it thru the tunnels. The caverns were beautiful and guide was excellent.

This is a fun and historic place to visit. Unfortunately the Butte Fire, which is still burning, has burned down the entire town of Cave City. There is nothing left there except for the caverns.

This is not as great a cavern as those like Kartechner Caverns or Luray Cavern, to name a couple of the magificent ones, but with this tour you get a good dose of Gold Rush history. For that reason, I would recommend this cavern. The other thing that differentiates this from other cavern tours is the exertion needed to take... More

Our tour was in the mammoth cave.... The cave system itself was amazing and to see natures creation was awesome . My issues that didn't make our tour as good as it could have been .... #1 Just my opinion but the fact that small infant babies are allowed in those caves is insane!!!!! What a safety hazard and what... More

Took the entire family on this tour. Only one tour was available that day, and that was perfect for our schedule. We went end of June 22 2015 on a typical hot summer day, so the cool temp of the caverns was welcomed. Guide was informative and explained the many cave features. I'm a pretty big guy in height and... More

We came here for a historical site report my 4th grader is working on. We had such a good time and the caves were fairly easy to maneuver. We've visited Mercer Caverns - very steep and lots of steps but we loved that too! This is just easier if you'r having any trouble with mobility but can still get around... More

We decided to go to California Cavern after reading the reviews of all the Caverns in the region...Moaning Cavern, Black Chasm, California, and Mercer Caverns. Because of some mobility issues, we decided that California Cavern sounded like the easiest. Some of the other caverns have a LOT of steps to contend with. We were so glad we chose this one!...
