Beautiful area to hike or ride. Easy terrain. Nothing too technical. Beautiful in the spring when it greens up from rains. Can be hot in the summer. Decent wild life including coyotes, bobcats, deer, snakes, hawks, tarantulas.

This place is great for hikes, walking with the dog (only on certain trails) and kids. If you can, check out their annual Family Wilderness Day: it is a GREAT event with botanists, entomologists, demonstrations with live birds of prey, and much, much more.

I have been to the plateau many, many times. While hiking I have never seen any artifacts. However, just before you get to the hiking trails, there is a visitor center. There are many interesting facts and photos and information here. You may be able to ask your questions here and get answers from the people that have the knowledge and experience to answer them.
