Having visited Shafer back in the early 80's...and seeing what they have achieve since then...amazing. John, Doug and Elias are the best of the best. Their wines are served at the White House and around the world. The tasting experience is on a whole other level from all the others were experienced. Gracious, humble, and knowledgeable. The book Doug wrote... More

Shafer Wines clearly have a name. I get the Hillside Select so I was excited about the other wines. The tasting this time was for all their wines. Tasting with a handful of friends. Chardonnay, One Point Five, Relentless and Hillside. Wines were all good - have a new appreciation for Relentless. It's not a tasting room, but not the... More

We happen to see this place while driving to a different winery. I had heard of Shafer's high-scoring wines of the past so we decided to stop. As we walked into the tasting room a staff member looked at us and left the room. We looked around for about 20 minutes with no one even bothering to come back and... More

I enjoy wines from the Shafer vineyard so I was super excited when our friends scored a private tasting during a recent stay. However, once we finished my husband and our friends all said the same thing, for the price and name I expected more. The vineyard is off the main road and a little hard to find so you... More

We made our first tour at Shafer Vinyards and we were not disappointed. Our guide Amgela was engaging and knowledgeable. From winery history to the wines she covered the bases. The total experience was super!

Back again after another year, had a conference to attend in Santa Rosa, wife flew out, and we couldn't be this close and not make a stop at Shafer! Love the Hillside Select, just don't love the price.

Shafer. If you love their wines then go visit the winery and see the vineyards. If not, then don't feel bad about skipping this one. Meh.

Beautiful property and very nice host (Bob). Wines were excellent, and we were able to try 5 of them including the Hillside select. They sold out of Relentless, so that was not available, which is a big dissapointment. No food served at all except for breadsticks. Wines were heavy and needed some cheese or food.

A more modern type of a vineyard where they take you out and explain you a little about their wines. They have some amazing wines and my personal favorite was the one point five. They also made us try a really amazing port wine from their production and if you are into sweet wines you should definitely try that.
