One of Napa’s classic wine estates, Trefethen is still a hidden gem. Easy to find, but only if you’re looking. Our entry is on Oak Knoll Avenue, tucked away from the crowds of Highway 29. The driveway John Trefethen used to land his plane on runs through the middle of our vineyard, over the ground we have tended since 1968. On August 24, 2014, a 6.0 earthquake rocked Napa Valley and Trefethen to the core and left our cherished historic winery leaning 4 feet to the west. We have spent 2½ years working on a full restoration, including a modern seismic retrofit. Originally constructed in 1886, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the building is ready to stand sentinel over Napa Valley once again. Please come visit soon! Reservations are not required but are suggested Reservations are required for all groups of 6 or more. At this time we are unable to accommodate anyone under the age of 21, including infants and children.

We visited here for the first time. Their temporary tasting room was great. We had Adam for our appointment. We loved the wines, especially the reds. We bought a few bottles to take with us and joined their wine club. One disappointing experience was the...More

We've been to Trefethen on multiple occasions but this last time was disappointing. Most of the Napa wineries charge $20-$30 for their tastings, but most of them will at least credit one of them back if you buy some wine. My wife is a big...More

The drive to the winery was beautiful. Tree-lined streets led the way to the beautiful and historic wine tasting building. (I hope it is able to be repaired after the earthquake!) Jesus gave us a wonderful wine tasting experience. He was knowledgeable and very polite....More

Beautiful vineyard & grounds. The wine is very good. We purchased several bottles to take home (Cabernet, Riesling). The Reserve Riesling is excellent.

Tasting at Trefethen is a lively, good time, not your typical experience. Ask for Shannon, she's great! Try their "Dragon's Tooth" (a nod to their Welsh heritage) red and their Viognier which is sublime. Beautiful grounds, easy parking.

Very good wine, buttery flavor, similar to their Chardonnay, but with a better taste. The price was $ 25.00 per bottle. Wish I had bought more.

Thanks for the great comments on Quandary. It is a perfect summer wine. We greatly appreciate the visit and your time to post a review. Next time you come visit, we will make sure you take home more wine! Cheers, Team Trefethen.

If you want to learn about wines, don't go here. This is a typical run of the mill vineyard that asks for money, pours you a bit of wine and sends you on your way. We tend to like vineyards where they will spend more...More

Trefethen was the first vineyard that I visited in Napa. The wine was amazing, my favorite was, Dragon's Tooth. Loved the history behind the wine and the family business. We had a great time, had we arrived earlier in the day, I'm not sure we...More
